I went to school at swift in Millington TN. and I couldnt Beleive what I saw, there was a guy who backed into a telephone pole twice during his driving test and they still passed him. And several of the students and I told about a guy who hated America and was getting his CDL to drive Tankers and we were told to mind our own buisness and that he paid cash for school and he would pass.He was my roomate and I slept with one eye open, he was a freak. The stories Ive read the last couple of days about Swift and CR England are scary.

LOL..That guy was in my group...Great guy but I don't think he'll ever get past the Road test much less the DMV. I think he was about 6 cans short of a six pack..As far as working for Swift, my brother works there and seems to like it. I just finished my CDL training with them. I would prefer to work elsewhere but due too a 13mph over the limit ticket on my 3 yr.MVR, Swift is the only company willing to hire me. Looks like I am stuck for a few years. But hey "Stop Whining I'm F'ing Trying"

I WAS THERE WHEN THIS RAID HAPPENED I WAS FIXING TO TEST OUT OF THE ACADEMY THAT MOURNING BUT I WILL SAY THIS I HAD TO EARN MY CDL NO QUESTIONS ASKED IT WAS ONE OF THE LONGEST THREE WEEKS OF MY LIFE.THERE ARE SOME GREAT INSTRUCTORS THERE I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD FEEL AS COMFORTABLE IN A TRUCK AS I DO IN SUCH A SHORT TIME FRAME!!! I JUST HOPE THIS THING BLOWS OVER BECAUSE I WORKED MY TALE OFF GETTING THROUGH THIS ACADEMY AND I AM SUPPOSE TO GET MY CDL ON THE 5TH.
I am assuming that with three weeks training, you will be driving with a trainer?
Sorry, but I don't care how hard you worked, three weeks does not prepare you for Chicago, LA, or New York, or any other large town!

Hmmm. I know the pay isn't as much as some. I make 42 cpm, avearge between 3,000 and 4,200 miles a week. I go home when I get ready and usually take either 5 or 6 days off. They generally don't screw with the ones who deliver on time every time. I also don't take every pre-plan sent to me either. I don't let them screw me therefore they don't screw me. Sounds like a few disgruntled ex-employees.

NO-sounds like a company that takes short cuts-like making inexperienced drivers-trainers or DRIVER MENTORS in Swift's vocabulary, with only 6MOS OTR. Now, maybe that's changed to 12MOS OTR. I certainly don't consider a driver with only 1Yr experience anywhere close to an expert or trainer, in any sense of the word. Close to running your log,if running as solo driver,to the maximum.
3000Mis every week OK if freight is busy.4200Mis/Wk-highly dubious claim given the recession the past yr-2009.2500-3000Mis/Wk,given the industry average-probably more believable. Now every company has its unsafe and untrained drivers. It's just that Swift has the unenviable reputation of having more than just a few. Before you SWIFTIES get all upset,I have always been critical of the MGMT NOT the drivers.Drivers don't set the policy on safety+training. Those of you SWIFTIES who drive Northeast Regional or any dedicated routes in that busy traffic corridor, including NYC-you are good drivers. You won't survive up here otherwise. If you doubt Swift safety record-read the TOPIX article about Swift truck slams into Youngsville restaurant. That story is listed under the Swift forum.Funny reading but a sad commentary on that poor SWIFTIE. Good Luck Capt-always posting your outstanding salary at Swift. Almost thought you were a recruiter? At 4200Mis/Wk, you might see if your dispatch will bump you up to perhaps 5000Mis/Wk SOLO. Just remember:MASH ON IT BUT DON'T CRASH ON IT! FYI:.50/Mi experienced drivers at Heartlandexpress.com or Nctrans.com ..42/Mi JBHUNT.COM

NO PROBLEM with training. You can drive in those big cities with only minimal training, after backing into a pole and passing your road test given by the Swift Millington Mill (Millington, TN CDL Mill) read post #167-some funny stuff here. You really begin to learn when you drive solo on your own. Unfortunately, if you have a trainer who has only 6-12Mos OTR experience,it will be tough to learn the proper and safe driving abilities required of those big cities. Who goes to New York City Shitty?YOU-the newbie driver of course! You will have to learn sometime by yourself-in rush hour traffic or back down some alley or inside dock.GET OUT AND LOOK! I would not be ashamed to ask other experienced drivers for help on the road, especially O/O's as they likely have more experience than your average novice/newbie driver.I was fortunate to have a highly experienced trainer with 15+Yrs exp when I began driving.Large companies like Swift often take short cuts to save $ and will employ trainers with only minimal experience.Would you like to learn to become a Commercial Pilot with a commercial flight instructor with minimal experience? Unlike the trucking business, aviation requires more than a few months to obtain that commercial license.CDL-no problem-no experience OK? 3-4Wks with company trainer and then the fun really starts when you drive solo to NYC or other large cities.Rural X-C easy!-except for the winter weather in Western/Rockies states.MASH ON IT BUT DON'T CRASH ON IT!

I got caught in the bullshit and they took 5000 of our CDL Licenses . I believe it had something to do with them sending us home for a week and then coming back to get our CDL licenses . They were telling everyone to keep quite about it because it was type of loop hole that they were getting away with for years. They also said that as soon as we get home to change the cdls eo or home state as soon as possible. I know i did everything by the book on my written and my drivers test because I drove a truck in the Army and could drive very well. I just dont understand how they suspended even the people who did the right thing its a damn shame. Im not driving anymore i drove for 2 years before they pulled mine and i went back to laying brick theres allot more money in it and i get to be home and eat good .But i payed for all my tuition for nothing and would love to get that 4 or 5 grand back . What a fucken ripp off that company is i feel for you truckers who are getting dicked buy them day in and day out. I have been running my own masonry business for the past year and i have 10 people working for me and i am never going to rip my workers off for 1 cent. They have taught me how it feels to be screwed and i did not enjoy it at all. So i would never put my worst enemy through the hurt that they put me through. See my ever since i was 6 years old i wanted to drive otr. And they took my life long dream and smashed it all in my face after i payed 5000 dollars. What a piss poor bunch of thieves.
