Seriously-how much OTR experience will you have before you become a mentor-driver trainer? I believe they only required like 6Mos OTR and you could apply to train others to drive. Talk about the blind leading the blind! No way can any driver, even with 1Yr OTR, claim to be an expert or even close to being an experienced driver.I was fortunate to have a trainer at another carrier-NOT Swift 10Yrs ago,who had 15+Yrs OTR experience.I asked him-how much experience do you recommend before being a trainer:5Yrs OTR.This may not be realistic for you. However, highway safety certainly depends on experienced drivers and trainers. You will no doubt be paid more for training. Most drivers select being a trainer just for the money. However, I would think twice before contributing your inexperience,at the expense of driver safety.Swift doesn't exactly have the best record in the experienced trainer department, if they are still willing to use drivers with only limited OTR experience:6-12 Mos!
Anyway, I wish you luck and am glad your driving 2.5-3K Mi/Wk. Most new drivers are given the most miles as you are the lowest paid.It was the same for me 10Yrs ago.Think twice about being a trainer or ever leasing a truck from Swift or anyone with company trucks, until you have a bit more OTR experience:4-5+Yrs.Good Luck! You need it!

Correction to my last post:If you have 5Yrs OTR,as indicated by your previous posts, you may certainly be one of the better driver trainers for Swift.I based my comment on Swift's dangerous policy of using drivers with limited experience to become trainers. As you stated you were a new driver,I assumed an inexperienced driver, as Swift runs a driving school and is known for their new drivers.Schneider and Werner also hire new drivers.Cannot single out Swift.Given you have some experience=5Yrs,that should make a big difference over those 6-12Mos OTR drivers with only limited experience.Given your experience level, Swift should use more drivers like yourself as mentors rather than relying upon inexperienced people. I see you didn't do well as a lease-op,especially if it was with Swift or any carrier with company trucks.Better luck with the company trainer position.I think you will do well!
