Swift is not a bad company but some of the employees makes it seems like a bad company!
Why I say that is because u r only as good as your company allow to be! I am a rehire at Swift. Since returning I've experienced so many problems. I was rehired in December of 2007 and now it is March of 2008 - at this point I don't think I've ran at least 10,000 miles to date!! I have requested more miles, talk to my driver manager regarding more miles, asked to be transferred to another terminal all of which I was told no! Before when I worked for Swift I did very well as far as miles but had to go back to my home town to take care of some unforeseen business. Upon returning it was a major struggle. I was told I was rehired but had to wait a whole month before getting into a truck - mind you I have a family of three children, wife and myself! It was during the Christmas season. I was unable to work for a whole month so there was no pay in my house hold. Eventhough during Christmas my children weren't able to celebrate as the norm we were grateful to be togehter with life, health and strength as family. I thank the almight God for that. Nonetheless, when I did get a truck, the truck wasn't running probably. It was in the shop a lot. So, finally one day I called for my dm who wasn't available;thereby I spoke with another dm who offered me another truck. At that point, I was able to roll consistently for a very short time. During the interim though my terminal took me through many problems almost every week that I worked! Why - what is it about me - all I want to do is work hard to provide for my family just like everyone else who works for swift. If Swift didn't think I could help make them look good by being a safe, on time driver, I don't think I would have been hired. Yet, why till this day do I still struggle? Personally, I don't think it's the company! I think it's the person(s) in authority that have authority over me as driver that doesn't like for me some apparent reason that I have yet to figure out why! Please someone help!!

I am sorry your having so much trouble. I think the misconception is that the Dm's have control of the miles. We have to beg the planners for miles for our drivers which most of time goes ignored. I am sure it's not that your dm doesn't like you, it's probally that they have way too many drivers under them and not enough time in the day to get it all done. There is alot of work the dm's do that the drivers do not realize. We have reports, logs to look after and tons of other things. We are held accountable for the drivers utilization and believe me, we want all of our drivers to run plenty of miles. It's not the dm's fault if the planners are not giving it. Right now, it's a slow time of the year and freight is not good and that's the main problem. I have friends who work for other companies and it's the same thing there, lack of freight. I hope it gets better for you. I would recommend a good talk with your dm about your frustrations but please be careful not to be too critical. Listen to her/him as well about their frustrations. I am not saying all dm's are good but most are. If yours is not, talk to the fleet mgr, if that doesn't help go to the term mgr. If that doesn't work call Phoenix. Good Luck

I'm in a similar boat. Waiting for a truck and getting jerked around. I'm hoping to get a truck soon, but I may have to settle for keeping my CDL depending on what comes of the investigation at SWIFT.
I agree with you in that I also believe that there are just some assh*les in key positions (low and high) that just don't give a damn...
I'd read all the stuff posted about swift and saw a lot of mess (as in BS) in school, but I thought that it was all incidental since - up until I got off my mentor's truck - everything had gone well over all. But the truth is, the company as a whole doesn't give a F-ck about the people they hire. I mean, if you can manage the logistics on 17000 trucks you should know that you're hiring too many people and telling too many students that there'll be a job for them at the end. But they do just that...I don't think its that they don't have enough trucks, I think its that swift isn't doing so well business-wise. Rather than admit to this, and make the correct changes, they're just bullsh*tting along increasing their level of good-will with the masses. That was sarcasm.
To make people go through that god-damned school with 4 people in a room, and then get pimped out as a trainee (even with a company driver, if you drive 600 miles in 10 or 11 hrs and they get paid 34cpm, you earned them over $200) only to be told "sorry, no truck today, could be another week or 3..." AND still be charged $4000 is evil.
If swift can't deliver on promises, they need to STFU...I can almost understand why swift trucks are the target of vandalism and sabotage...almost...
The song in my head of late is "if only..." - if only I'd went elsewhere, If only the lies were true...
I hate this f*ckin' place but I'l wait for my 3 months to get elsewhere. This company 'swift' ain't shit...you can take that as my opinion, or deal with them and then quote it as fact.

Younger drivers should plan on getting out of trucking, period! Due to fuel prices, the new way to transport most goods over long distances will be via barge and rail. Get out while you can, or go local. Leave OTR loads for drivers ready to retire or you will face unemployment in near future.

Ive been with Swift now for 9 months, and so far so good. Ive survived the "trials by fire" that all new drivers will go through, I drive hard and sit little as possible. This company is good to me, for the most part. I have to say, that young and/or new drivers HAVE TO start OTR to have any chance going local. You must have forgotten that you too were wet behind the ears and no local company would touch you until you had at least 1 to 2 years under your belt. As far as rail and barge? I think i agree with Mad, you cant have local deliveries unless you first get the freight TO the locales, and aint no barge gonna float up to the 7/11 in some sandy desert town! lol

So true on this one. THe Driver Services Cooridinater in Jonestown is a joke. Apparently Swift does not investigate there employees before they hire them. If you are a girlfriend or wife of a swift driver I would keep him out of Jonestown. There is a woman there who will sleep with all the mentors and students. So much drama there that most drivers wont even enter the building unless they have to. I will say all the other employees are ok but it only takes one to mess up the whole place and make everyone miserable.
Stop spreading rumors. I am a mentor out of Jonestown and have heard plenty of rumors as well, but I don't feel the need to get on the net and spread them. Your post is verging on slander. Swift gets enough bad pub (most of it lies)without an idiot like you posting this garbage.

i have been trying to get rehired on swift and they tell me that due to gas prices they are not rehiring at the moment but they are still accepting students. I think this is very wrong because some of us have more experience than others. Then they post hiring at the willows, Ca termingal. i don't know what to do, i just want to get back to trucking so i can support my family.

I have been with Swift for 6 years. I have seen good office people and bad office people. At Swift as with any comany the job is what you make of it. Unhappy about what you are doing and always compalining about things then your job will be H*ll. Work within the system and do the job the best you can then things will go well generaly. Over the past six years I have had some complaints but know that no matter where I go and what I do that I will always have some complaint about the company that I work for or the people that work with. Grow up. If you are unhappy with the company that you work for go find somethng else to do that you will be happy with.

Swift Transportation Inc. owns the following;

1. 60% of Werner Trucking (thats why you see them pulling trailers owned by Swift and another company they bought that was based in Memphis Tn.
Also Jerry Moyes put that 60% of Werner Trucking in his wifes name.

2. 100% of Laidlaw

3. 100% of Greyhound (and its new parent corperation that is now based in Great Brittian)

4. 100% of the largest trucking company in Mexico

They tought us this in class at the Swift Driving Academy in Millington and as that I am suing them I have gone to great lengths to verify this.

I will own all of that next.
Then I will break it all up into little peices and sell off the peices.

If any of you care about keeping what you have then you had better correct the LIES that you and Swift are telling about me on your site or I will without care take everything you have from you all. I am the person who turned in Swift to the USDOT and FMCSA in part for giving CDL's to people who did not deserve one according to Federal and State Law. One of the guys that I personally witnessed getting a CDL was an ex Marine thrown out of the Marines for being a fruit loop who was at the time on Anti- Psychotic Drugs at the Swift school in Millington TN. Another guy was from some African Country (not a US Citizen) and he could not hardly speak or read any English at all and he caused an accident by running another driver off the road on the on ramp to the highway on his practice run for his driving test putting that drivers rig in ditch and shoulder of the ramp. This according to TN. State Law is supposed to be an automatic one-year suspension of his CDL Permit to learn how to drive. Swift driving school employees made sure he passed and got his CDL because he paid CASH for his school and did not get a student loan. Also according to Federal and State Law all holders of a CDL must be able to speak and read English fluently. Both these to guys were assigned to my motel room and assigned to my four-man student-driving group. I wrote a complaint to the company (Swift) about this while I was in my third week of school (class 574 June of 2007) and that is when Swift and its employees chose to deliberately assign me to a truck after I graduated that they new was infested with Wood Ticks without telling me that said truck was infested. This truck and driver that I was assigned to drive with were told about to us all in class one day and come to think about it after I filed said complaint. But they did not say in class that day who the driver was or what the truck number was. The Swift Schools in Millington Tn. and Memphis TN. along with Swifts Terminal and East Coast headquarter Offices in Memphis were RAIDED by Homeland Security, Secret Service, FBI and other various State of TN. Law Enforcement agencies because of information I turned over to them about Swift Transportation Inc. and their ILLEGAL practices and operations. Correct the LIES told by Swift Transportation Inc. on your site immediately or suffer the consequences.

The BS at this terminal. Its incredible. Too many managers are tied through blood ties and drivers cant complain for fear of being fired. Look if your DM's father is the fleet manager, better keep a low profile and play the game. Too big, too impersonal...its a paycheck only and don't get personally or care any. Get your money and be ready to run. High turnover because people don't care.

Is a Swift mentor something like a Wal-Mart associate? This company is just as big a piece of sh*t as Wal-Mart for their labor practices. Hopefully since May you have found a real trucking company to work for instead of this nightmare to public safety!!!!!!!

All I can say is I dont know which way to turn. I have had my CDL for about a month and really dont know which company to try and get a job with.

For anyone to say dont go into trucking get another job,you are out of touch with the reality of the job market. I worked for one company for thirty three years and there are no jobs in my field that pay what a trucking job pays. I am considering U S Express but no matter where you go someone has probably had a bad experience with most companies and some negativity wil always arise. most people come to these jobs because they are already unemployed! Good luck to you. Each and every company has good things about and bad things about. You need to look at as many as you can and pick one fits your situation. Do not be discourage if the first or even the second company does not work out. You can and will find one that will work for you if you look long enough. Take care drive safe and have a great life trucking.

Memphis is the hub for Swift Transportation and is open 24 hours a day. All night travel for Swift truckers across the country is monitored there.
According to the company's web site, Swift also owns a Mexican based carrier called Nuevo Laredo and offers crossing services at all major Mexican border check points.
The company also makes deliveries to every Canadian province.
In addition to the FBI investigation, a number of other agencies are working with the FBI, including immigration and customs.

I know this for fact as that I am the one who
turned in Swift for giving out CDL Class A's to people who were under the influences of Anti-Psychotic Drugs and to other persons who were
not legally able to obtain a CDL in this Country because they were from Countries on our Governments Terrorist Watch List.
