If you like to be micro managed and followed around and lied to and stolen from and made to fix their equipment (& not paid to do so) & forced to buy a $74 tool box that they obviously paid $20 something for. Come to swift. They are digging themselves a grave. That this driver hopes they cant get out of. Word of mouth can kill a company.(Seen it happen) What will they do when they cant get drivers to haul their frieght? I already have seen other companies hauling their trailers and already know they are having problems finding and keeping drivers. Im waiting for the day that you hear about someone coming up in the terminal and shooting everyone. Because of the way they treat you. Come to heartland. They are laid back and their laundry is atleast free for drivers. And they dont breath down your neck.

Driving in the snow.. yep that is part of the job. How do you know he had rude intentions? A dispatcher doesn't know you.. all he knows is what he sees on the screen. As a professional driver it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that you are operating safely and legally at all times. I have never had a dispatcher "give me directions" at Swift. Yes, they do give out a suggested fuel route, but it is still the drivers responsibility to check his map book, call customer for directions, etc.. to make sure that the driver will deliver safely. Also, if you were "almost" killed by an oncoming train my question would be how? Were you driving on the tracks or something? Plus trains have this very bright light on the front that you can see for over a mile away usually... if you couldn't see it, then maybe you shouldn't be driving anyway.

Good starter company. BUT.. new drivers. I suggest you get two phones or one that can tape your phone calls. And tape every phone call you have and take pictures of your qualcom messages and save every piece of info/paperwork you can. It might just save your ass. And make dam sure you keep up with your pay, because they are. ITS A BUSINESS. DONT GET CONFUSED. your a number. As long as your on time for p/u and del and you stay healthy, your good, sort of. But trust no one. Because everyone is out for themselves here. O and tip freddie and jess good. There are about the only bright shining stars out there or atleast at the columbus terminal, that is. Josh is or was a good dm, if he isnt corrupted by now. And dont plan on much of a driver appreciation week at the new mexico terminal. They only do it for one day of the whole week. ( really makes you feel appreciated) fontana had a good spread. Be safe out there new drivers.

As a female just coming out of the "Academy" I was assigned to male mentor. As we were in line to exit the security gate in Memphis,he turned to me and asked "do you like to watch dirty movies"? I answered no. By the time we shut down at a small truck stop it was dark, the friendly neighborhood
lot lizzard started banging on the door and,I was told to leave the truck for an hr.The next night he
proceeded to drink 4 tall boys. The following morning he took a lg styrofoam cup, fill it with more beer and started driving- Swift training dept in Memphis was notified ( through a friend of mine ) and he was notified to fuel at the term. in N.C. I was told to go in,find a Planner.and fax a full statement to the Training Dept in Memphis. The planner (female) in NC told me to get back on the truck and deliver the load. HE IS STILL THERE.

Pepper...That's not the norm. You obviously had an a-hole for a mentor. I have been at swift for almost 12 years, and have a pretty high opinion of swift. Mentors like this give a bad name to swift, or any other company they might go to. That was handled badly by all concerned, if what you say is true. Document, then distribute, to everyone, press included.

I have been OTR with swift for five months now. In the beginning I really liked them, they gave great miles and sent me on routes I rarely took with other companies who kept me east of the Rockies. But about 6wks in...the miles stopped coming, the loads were being sent less and less. I exchanged trucks 5times, because they never keep their fleet in running shape (I finally got a decent one). I have only gotten sent to hometime on the date I provided once, every other time they send me on BS 5mi-70mi loads two to three days before I get home they still pay by mile and never offer multiple trip stops so I can at least get $15 extra per stop. I have sat around 20days out of five months (not including home time) every time I sit they offer BS local loads at times where I have no hours, and because I have to reject them I don't get paid any layover or detention and I gave up with fighting them over this and just learned to rent movies and eat my paycheck away. I have driven for four different companies in the span of my CDL. No I have never been fired and I have a clean DAC report and a clean DMV, and never been placed on probation. I took one year off living on my savings and had to do my 6mos to stay in the game. I have one month left, and I will never come back to them. They are modern slave masters, they treat all drivers like crap even if you are the safest goody two shoes around. Swift essentially has way too many drivers and too few of loads to pay anyone decently. If you are experienced with professional driving, you will not be given as many miles as a student (I guess to keep payroll cheaply balanced). If you need a job fast they are the ones, but don't expect fair or equal treatment this is not that company. PS stay out of Ocala, fl terminal, Lancaster, TX terminal, Gary, IN terminal, and Decatur, GA terminal. They are shady and the planners will pressure you for local runs and never get you home.

this goes to the swift drivers wife comment. I feel your pain on not being able to get the bills paid. I hear it from my wife all the time! Last 2 weeks, they had 50 bucks to make it through, that doesn't cover the fuel it takes getting the kids back and forth to school and buying food and formula. There has been many times I wanted to park my truck and get a part time job flippin burgers (be in the same boat that I'm in now but won't have to spend months away not seeing her or the kiddos). They claim you get 2 days off for every 2 weeks out, but hell, if I take 2 days off, I am going to have to worry about morgage or my kids going a couple days without food. My miles picked up "for this week", doesn't hep out due to the fact I am in such a huge hole and will take a year from now to see light, but we are able to get the christmas tree with a few gifts for them this yr! I can only hope it gets better or tax time, take another loss and find something that pays better and gives me time with the family. The management at swift doesn't pay attention to how drivers are struggling to make their deliveries, they just want to know if you will accept the load or not, pre-sets are a joke (more like a several hr post-set), 24 hr phone service (if you want to wait 15 hrs on hold), qualcomm macs, phone calls (what's the point, if you still have to walk in twice to make sure a load is being put on your truck. Planners, dm's are still getting paid while you are sitting, so why would they put you priority (they are going home for the night if you have miles or not). Oh, have they ever considered the living expense it takes to live on a truck on top of having to support a family back home? It isn't cheap and there are several days I will go without just to make sure my kids have what they need! Good luck to any driver reading this.

I have a complaint about a DM is worthless. I ask her a question get I Don't know. Ask for mt solution say I don't know i Don't care just get am mt. She has accepted and loads without me even looking at them. 2 time while I was in the sleeper berth for 2 hrs which case load had to be picked up 45 min after she did that. I vent and just crap or I am screwed she writes me again for stupid stuff I have said that millions of times never gotten written up before she wrote me up for turd bag said that before to. She's trying to get me fired I have asked to her board numerous times. I have even been calling another terminal since November to get away from her. To no avail. I would like to put a formal complaint about her because if she's doing this to me what about the rest of her drivers.

I like swift like driving I p s t d the dm o have know didn't even bother to get to know me. Or talk to me. I would have told her. It's hard for me to trust people. I told her not to lie to me. I ll work hard for you if you work hard for me. I am a hard worker. A hustler for miles. Because I can not sit which I have told her. To much time thinking I go crazy. Yes I may get impatient and want instant results when I ask a question if she me constantly messaging at least do a quick message saying she's looking into it. I despise laziness. I ve tried to ask fleet manager for a new d.m I he said that i would need to transfer if I need a DM. Called several places no luck no one's taking transfers. This dm has made my life a living hell in which case I ll probably get fired. Because there's no one for the drivers. Drivers can't get help because where the low person on the totum pole we get shafted. Swift can get thousands of people who may or not be good drivers. Who cares right . Swift will go buy another company and go on there merry way. While us drivers will just suffer.
