Can you say "Lesson Learned"? If her parents allow a gun in the house, have they they also taught her the proper respect and handling of a hand-gun? I think not.

I guess some lessons are learned the hard way.

Ok this is for all those people who got on the forum yesterday and pointed fingers. You tried to use racial profiling to justify why this teen was shot. You know you should be ashamed of yourself! You are the type of people who will walk into a court room and convict someone because you assume automatically they are wrong, instead of listening to the facts. You know who you are!!! This is exactly why you can't make judgments when you don't know that fact's.

Finally, it seems that IMPD and the detectives sre hopefully going to find out the truth! Evidently this young girl needs to come clean about what exactly happened no matter what the consiquenes will be. I truly hope she does not have to go to jail or juvenile because she maybe afraid to tell exactly what happened. Maybe the mother needs to be questioned further. As someone said earlier the mother is no saint and it is a shame that her daughters( there is a younger daughter also) will not have to go through anything else. The next time it may be worse!

Why aren't they going to charge her? Not only did she lie, the bigger issue is she had a GUN in her purse! What 16 year old carries a gun in their purse without some type of intention to do harm? Sure, she's healing right now, but image if she would have done something irrepairable to someone else? She needs to be punished beyond the bullet through her face because that's not nearly a big enough lesson. She gets a slap on the rest now...let's see where she is in 5 years. The making of yet another degenerate.

Why in the h*** would a 16 year old be leaving the house with a gun? What were her intentions?

Or get a good trigger guard lock. I keep the clip and gun hidden separately

I knew it, and so did the rest of us. What does the mother have to say now, being that there is always kids walking around her neighborhood with guns, and her daughter is one of them?

What a terribly sad comment on todays society. I wonder if she knows who her father is. Sounds like she really needs a good set of parents instead of the ones who made her and turned her into what she is now.

Steve Wonder could see the holes in that story. I wonder if she actually thought anyone believed her story.

What's with these Southside girls and their making false reports to police? Remember the "assault" victim near Southern Plaza? And what was this girl doing with a gun anyway?

I support ownership of guns, but you are right. This girl was not taught the proper respect for nor proper handling of a gun.

If you ignore the fact that the parents did not teach her what she needed to know about guns, and put the blame on the girl...Why on Earth did she take the gun anyway? At 16 years of age, she should know better.

Maybe better she shot herself than some girl she was fighting with. And I agree...a kid I know accidently shot his brother in the arm and they charged him with attempted murder. Ended up with a handgun with out a permit...that is the least this girl should get.

Either she or her family should pay for the cost of the IMPD investigating this farce. Her stupidity is no excuse!
