Dear Gov Rendell:
For the moment, at least, we still practice "free enterprise" in America. You may desire State control of every aspect of life, but lucky for us, you will not get your way. Please send V. Fumo a card....he misses you.

Ha. My job with the state is safe. I work for welfare and there's no way I'm getting the axe. All you suckers losing your job should go to PA civil service site and test for some sweet state jobs.

And what about duty the customers? Layoff and watch quality and productivity go down the tubes. Then see how long any company survives. And what about people with no jobs? What will they buy without money to spend? Who then will pump money into the economy?
Duh!!!! You can't fulfill your duty to the shareholders without customers. Quality and productivity go without saying when returning the most to the shareholder. It is a fine balance, but one that doesn't preclude layoffs.

Is this the same Rendell that just hired a friend at $100,000 to spin the stimulus money, or the same Rendell that hired a friend to teach Liquor Store clerks how to say hello and thank you? Sunoco just needs to send him a bag of money and he will lay off.

Are you forgetting that we’re in a hiring freeze? My fiancé and I both work for the state, my job is safe but his is not. Why don’t you focus your energy on being thankful that you still have a job instead of making fun of all the people who are not so fortunate?

He's just teaching them how to play his game. Money for his silence. Big Ed talks about state layoffs, and he's going after a non-governement business. They should tell him to shove a steak and cheese up his a**

Mr Halsey,
Really...the middle class is being destroyed by the democrats? You must have missed the last 8 years!
Not so fast my friend. Up until 2 years ago the company was doing fine. Then........Democrats took over Congress and all hell has broken loose. How about that Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schummer, Rob Emanuel, Dick Durbin, etc., totally disgusting and all you can do is pint to Bush. Pathetic.

Its all about GREED. There's no reason to lay these workers off when the company made such a HUGE profit.

Spendell, isn't this the guy who created a $100,000 job during the freeze for a Democratic politician who was booted out of office in November? Now he is paying $100,000 to a Philadelphia political strategist to "get the message out about federal stimulus money". He wants others to slash budgets to deal with a worsening recession, but throws our tax dollars on his friends in a willy-nilly manner.

Oil is too essential to our country to be left in the hands of profit-making companies. They screwed us, making huge profits when consumers stuggled to afford the gas and heating oil. Instead of reducing profits, they just raised prices. It's time to regulate oil as a public utitily, where profit isn't the goal; keeping oil and gas affordable is. Oh, that's right - the utilities talked politicians into not regulating them and allowing them to compete. The PP&L rate hikes that are coming show how well that worked.

I want Rendell to lay off 50% of the state's workforce. PA taxpayers can't afford the salaries and benefits.

Sunoco, like all oil companies pay significant taxes to government. Do some homework, it is not hard to find out.

Left wing reporters like to talk about record profits that oil companies make, they never mention profit margin. When you sell more, you make more revenue, when you make more revenue you tend to make more profit, it does not necessarily mean you have made a higher profit percentage on that large profit number. We aren't all that stupid, are we?

They are planning ahead for a potentially even softer business climate. Unlike government and the public sector who reacts to everything at the 11th hour!

Since when does the Fed tell the private sector which jobs to cut and whcih to keep? I don't see any bailout monies going to Sunoco?

Losing jobs at any time for any reason always s-u-c-k-s.

Good move, Ed Rendell. Gotta love those Democrats. I hope GOP supporters are starting to see that their party just doesn't have our backs. And by "us" I mean anyone who isn't a gazillionaire.
