Hmmmm I must be in fantasy land. A Land where civil servants make twice the average salary of the people they work for. (It's for the children so bend over, it's OK) They have guaranteed health care , never work OT without significant union mandated pay and they don't see that UNION salary mandates are driving their neighbors off LI. Please wake me up when no one is left on LI except the civil servants. Housing prices will fall BIG in the next 5 years due to public employee costs.

Boy is Levy starting to look like a tool. Stevie boy, I found your 2nd grade report card. States "needs to learn how to play with others" and "pouts if he doesn't get his way"

Tons of retired LI civil servants now here in NC driving up the cost of everything and bringing their attitudes with em. They won't blend. How the hell did they find us? I got here 20 years ago and they were nowhere to be found.

If Levy is truly enhancing the police services then why are the upper management personnel leaving the department one by one? Do these true professionals , who have worked in the department for decades and know the job inside out, agree with Levys great plan OR do they prefer to leave with their honor and the respect of their men. These true professionals know how this enhancement (dismantling) of the department is wrong for the county and we only wish they would publicly speak the truth,

Cowards! We will remember who you are come election time! The police and teachers unions have been raping the future of Long Island families for too long! Time for a change!

Thank God the legislature finally stood up to this shameless bully, who absolutely refuses to negotiate with anyone in good faith. I do not know why he doesn't look at the salary lines of the average uniformed police officer, very few make any where near the $150,000.00 a year he claims. Just read the article closely, he is actually threatening everyone, including the legislature itself. What a guy!

Levy sounds like he is impossible to deal with. The union said they would give him what he wants if he agrees to some terms. Has Levy ever heard of negotiation? He also seems to have a thing for name calling. I hope someone runs against him or at least convinces him to shave that mustache.

These are your tax dollars at work... The Legislature should be ashamed of themselves and so should the PBA - all the other unions in Suffolk gave concessions - are you somehow above the law? What a joke.. Only Steve has the nerve to take on the tough issues, the Legislature couldn't even do the no brainers today - you go Mr. Levy!

I think both sides on this issue come off as stubborn. Both Levy and the PBA seem unwilling to come to an agreement and work towards the greater good.

But what I think everyone must agree on is that civil servant compensation in both Nassau & Suffolk counties has gotten completely out of control. Not just the PBA, but most all civil servants.

This is a problem that will not go away and will only become more complicated if left unresolved.

While there are no quick and painless solutions out of this mess, there is one thing on Levy's (and the taxpayer's) side that the PBA cannot dispute. Every time the county gives a police exam, there are thousands of applicants who score in the highest percentiles and would still take the job with a significant cut in compensation.

Maybe it's citizens like these who will step forward and save Nassau & Suffolk counties from certain fiscal ruin.

For all those who are in cohoyts w/Mr. Levy well I guess when our "civil servants" are laid off you would put your ass out to protect our county...I guess you guys wouldn't have the balls to go out and do what these police officers do on a daily basis "PROTECT OUR COUNTY AND FAMILIES". Mr. Levy should look closely at other perspectives to make cuts such as these young people living off our tax dollars receiving public assistance when in fact they are well enough to get off their fat asses and get a JOB...hey would that make up some of that money that he wants to "save the county"...How about cutting some of his own salary so he can make up the money he "wants to save our county"...WITHOUT OUR OFFICERS WHO PUTS THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE FOR ALL OF US, EVEN THOSE WHO DON'T DESERVE THEIR PROTECTION, WE WOULD HAVE A KAOTIC COUNTY...its bad enough with all the crime that is happening, just sit down and think how it would be like if they cut our police protection and with all these gangs, robberies, home invasions and drive by shootings that have been happening in our county...Oh I guess those who agree w/Mr. Levy will join him in force and try and protect our county...I PREFER THE MEN IN BLUE WHO HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING OVER you guys....FED UP W/THE BS...

There wouldn't be any "dismantling" of the dept. if the union pigs would give a little back and try to live like the rest of us. They and all the other over compensated union members out there should realize that they aren't wringing their money out of the county, town or schooldistrict. they are extracting their pound of flesh out of thei friends, neighbors and relatives who live here.
