Real sickness, adjudicated.

Unfortunate that it adds to the Church's black eye.

So, Winter-somebody gets 3 to 9 years in prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a charity.

What about the HUNDREDS of corrupt guys in our L.I. districts who stole A LOT MORE MONEY FROM TAX PAYERS for a lot longer than she did?

WHEN will THEY serve TIME IN JAIL? WHY are they still
"on the job" stealing our money? Why are they so privileged and allowed to steal on the their job?

As a Catholic, and not a very good one, I would love to be a fly on the wall when Winterbbottom stands before the throne of almighty God to be judged. To make it more interesting, she should bring along her defence shyster, Goggins. Now, THAT would be facinating.

Goggins is right . His view of this it right on the money. This woman is another victim of the church. I would appeal this case.
No audtit for five years, seems to me the woman was set up.
Would the church do that ? I bet they would to cover up other missing monies ? Bad Boys

...and all those pedophile priests are still walking around free...the priorities of the Catholic Church are made evident here.
The psychological damage done to soooooooooo many kids, especially boys, by the pedophiles is insignificant to the leadership of the church. They protect the criminals. But where money is concerned, the axe comes down hard. Anyone who gives money to Catholic Charities is supporting this despicable, ethically bankrupt exploiter organization. I have to laugh at the judge who said the woman robbed the poor...the Catholic church does that every day, and has been doing so for thousands of years. Bishop Murphy ejected the nuns so he could have that big beautiful place to live, and spent millions on fixing it up. The Catholic Church will never see another penny of my money. I will find actual people in need and contribute directly to them.

regardless of the past sins of the church - I don't conclude that this woman was set up - but her defense sadly indicates that we have lost our moral compass

Every one of you is paying out of your pocket to support mosques and temples and covens along with cathedrals. Tax religion for the big business it is and save every individual LI taxpayer thousands. The Catholic Corporation and other religions own BILLIONS in crystal cathedrals, mansions for their executives, and hundreds of thousands of acres of investment property without paying a dime toward the police, fire, zoning, and other government services they demand. Don't discriminate - assess and tax as with any other commercial enterprise even though the psychological and social damage religious famatics leave in their wake are far worse.

The diocese was stupid, but the charity director was more stupid. The most stupid pays the price. And as far as the restitution, it will never happen. The poor and the needy are the big time losers.

"Winterbottom's attorney, William Goggins of Mattituck, blamed the diocese for his client's legal problems. He said Winterbottom was hired to run the center though she had no experience running a business, "lacks a formal education and had a gambling addiction."

"The problem with this case is that the Catholic Church has failed to take responsibility for its malfeasance," he said in a statement to Newsday. " ...[The church] waited five years before performing an audit."

The problem, you $%#@ is that your client stole money from the poor. Idiot.

Remorseful - hmmm what that you got caught!!!! Didn't deserve this - hey 3 to 9 years is damn lenient for stealing from a church and how the hell does someone buy that many lottery tickets - Please get a grip on yourself. And how is she every going to pay this back by ripping off someone else and buying lottery tickets. This was a charity that she ripped off - no a big corporation- she took what was meant to help those who really needed help. That money was meant to help those in need not for her greed. I hope she rots in hell.

She is now qualified to run for public office. She will fit in with either party here on Long Island. What makes her any different than the public officials running our local governments.

Goggins seems to blame the victims for their being. If the victims wouldn't allow the perpetrators to rob or rape or kill them, they wouldn't be victims. Being a lawyer he has a definite slant on the side of the perps. being a perp. of baloney in the defense of thieves like himself.

Her lawyer must be insane - or the product of a US law school. Read the Turner Diaries for the solution to all of our problems.

My guess. Did you work for Murphy the nun pusher? She will get a good welcome!
A true American hero is one who steals $20,000,000.00 give $10,000,000.00 to charity and the people say look at all the good he has done!

Theft and no oversight, what's new?.Someone should look into where taxpayer's precious money goes to in this county (Heavily funded agencies). The key word here is "LOOK",don't rely on what your being told.Don't be surprised if you find that their is no mechanism in place that ensures that taxpayer's money get's spent as it was intended.
