While I understand your argument, I feel much more comfortable with the government giving financial assistance to those who have jobs but are getting paid minimum wage and have two kids rather than the scumbag who sits on his couch all day mooching off the taxpayers.

When are these politicians going to wake up to the fact that there's just not enough teats on the pig anymore?

I have officially changed my self image from "hard working american that pays his bills" to "pig teat". You should make ball caps with that slogan; maybe an American flag with 'official pig teat' embroidered on it. Once upon a time, if you were on welfare, you couldn't have luxuries like a phone or a TV. Now, handouts are made convenient to your work schedule! What a country!

On the contrary, wasn't the last election a resounding call for MORE bread & circuses?

Agreed. If you realized that you have to work for your money, and that times are tough so you took a low paying job to try to weather the storm, that's fine for assistance. I do not agree with people sitting at home waiting for that magical wonderful, high paying job to fall into their laps while letting the government pay their way.

As opposed to some women laying on her back and spitting out children knowing that full support and full responsibility for the children is not there?

"Anti-poverty advocates"

Who are the Anti-poverty advocates in Suffolk County?

"Anti-poverty advocates have pushed for evening hours for two years, saying people with jobs were blocked from getting benefits by 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. government office hours."

So do like the rest of the Legal Working Taxpaying Citizens of this nation, take time off of work.

This is all stemming form the horrible press coverage of Senor "16 year Illegal Alien veteran" Lucero. I suspect that these "Anti-poverty advocates" in Suffolk County are the Illegal Alien advocates that are pushing this to make the Senor "16 year Illegal Alien veteran" Lucero killing slowly go away from the print media for Steve Levy.

I wish I worked for that agency - seems like you don't have to do your job, and still pull in a paycheck!

Picking and choosing what laws to enforce... yeah... so when someone is pulled over because they passed a cop going 30 over the speed limit... that officer just decided to enforce the speeding law and gave that person a speeding ticket rather than arresting him for embezzlement... wait embezzlement has nothing to do with speeding?! This is correct, but he chose to enforce the law being broken... so illegal immigrants, might not be doing anything illegal other than being in America illegally, but they broke a law, and it is being enforced... it's not like they are being framed for doing something that they never did. Matching the law up to the crime is not picking and choosing, it's doing the correct thing. If you don't like, or someone else doesn't like it, try to change the law, don't heckle or accuse those enlisted to enforce the laws, they are only doing their job.

You selfish people bitch and moan when the less fortunate take welfare without working 9lack of decent opportunity be damned). Then you give them no credit for working a hard thankless low-paying job where they are likely to be FIRED if they take time off. They DEFINITELY will not get paid for the day like you probably do. Look around you, the whole world is not fair and everyone does not have the same opportunities you do.

Just listen to you. If an employer fires an employee for taking time off to go to social services; the employer is braking New York State Labor laws. If an employer fires an employee for taking time excessively, then yes they deserved to be fired.
