Big-city U. S. mayors and presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who joined the parade this week of ill-informed, U. S. anti-oil sands policies, should be careful what they wish for.

While the aim is undoubtedly to pander to the electorate in an election year charged with oil and climate-change debate, what they are stoking is an increasingly angry Canadian energy industry that is seriously looking at non-U. S. markets for its oil.

Here's what Rick George, chief executive of Suncor Energy Inc., Canada's largest single oil sands producer, said this week, reflecting rising frustration with the wave of American anti-oil sands policies:

You all better wake up! Here is a bill introducted by your Barack Obama which passed the house and is waiting on the senate for action. This bill is nothing more than socialism. Why should we have to pay for world proverty. Only way this will happen if he raises our taxes to pay for his legislation. This should open your eyes and be a warning to you what type of President he will be. You all need to research this piece of legislation and know it's facts before it reaches the senate for action. Voice your opposition now and stop this piece of world proverty solving legislation. Barack is a socialist and cannot be trusted as our next President.

Barack Obama Author:
S. 2433: Global Poverty Act of 2007. A bill to require the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day.(9 Cosponsors)

What? Is Obama crazy? What's wrong with the Dems? Are they seriously trying to break the American economy over this global warming silliness? Do they really believe in it, or is it some plan to bring us all down to peasant status so that their over-degreed selves and their families can rule forever? And since when is it the purpose of American legislators to commit American funds and goals to worrying about people living in other countries to the detriment of Americans living in our country? What's wrong with these people?

That's not new. Liberalism/socialism/leftism/c ommunism, whatever name it goes under, is old, failed and actually the status quo. Even hippieism is a movement that is 45 years old. The true new ideas are all conservative, and have been since the Reagan Revolution.
