I interviewed at Threshold, they offered me only 8.50 an hour for a upper level managment sales position. This is why people that are locals here, have to work over the hill. In San Jose I make 24.00 for the very similiar position, it becomes a matter of feeding your family, or working 5 part time jobs in Santa Cruz. Scotts Valley is no different from the rest of Santa Cruz, on the way out.

"He sees that money is tighter than people expected despite federal stimulus efforts to combat the recession, which economists say started in December 2007."

as if this shouldn't be expected? The Federal Stimulus, as it is being carried out, is not really going to help the economy.

Let's remember:
1-the little $300 tax rebate to low wage earners
(probably spent the first month they had it )

2-Funds to public projects (haven't seen any construction yet, but it is entertaining to watch everyone get their chops wet drooling to get money for their organization's pet projects.

3-Cash for clunkers
(sounds green but only helps the automakers & auto loans sell, if it were to be green how about park it and ride or bike lanes)

4-Now comes, cash for my frig?
Again, helping the manufacture, so what happens to that frig, another to the landfill?
Did I miss any <rhetorical> or the whole stimulus?<\rhetorical>

SCLocal is right about the SC job market, low wages being offered is a disgrace. Then employers' snivle "can't find any good help these days to stick around" (I've actually heard this once while on the clock, yes, that's when I found another job). What employers need to realize is if you can't afford to pay your employees what you yourself, or any other middle class family dude needs to be responsible (ie,NOT ON WELFARE), then your business plan is doomed to fail, it is not sustainable, you can't expect to find decent help for $8-18/ hr. The only employees you will have are temporary (still looking for a better paying job).

Have you heard that the lazy gringos don't work hard for cheap?...cause our family actually lives in the same house in SC (without 3+ other peoples' families).

Maybe employers need to understand that when they hire a resident who has family living local, all the money earned by the employee will be spent right here in this local economy, make all of our businesses prosper & creating some glimmer of sustainablity.

If I worked for $8-$10/hr , I would need 4 FULL time jobs just to make ends meet for my family of 4. Maybe I'm jus' another lazy gringo, but I like to enjoy myself jus' a little. In the end, no matter of our skin color, we all go out the way we come in.

Daily Horoscope for November 27

Libra

If you had a bad day with your partner yesterday, today is the day to kiss and make up. The Moon blends with Neptune to create a romantic passion; this may be a little over the top, but sometimes a bit of drama is in order. Those of you with children may find them acting up, but if you listen closely, you'll find they really just want and need your attention.
