You make my being out in 1959 sound a lot more important than it was. Remember I was only 15 at the time, so it wasn't some great thought-out-in-advance political move or something akin to that. It was simply a young boy telling his parents and siblings and a small circle of friends that he liked boys, and not girls. Everyone probably thought it was a "phase" I was going through. I didn't make an issue of it at school or in my scout troop, or in church. I was just living my life. I didn't get gay-bashed til I was out of high school, working, and going to night school, which was my first inkling that I was truly different.<quoted text>
Simply being out in 1959 makes you national lgbt resource. You're being modest.
And I bet few outside of St. Louis know there was a gay rights movement there as early as 1969.
In the "boy's club" of Wall Street, some top executives' views on gay rights changed entirely when the issue became personal.
