Hello! I worked for 5 years as a clinical doctor, but since one month I知 in a Department of Epidemiology in Psychiatry, it is utterly brilliant work but I知 not yet acquainted enough on this work (I started by studying the foundations of statistic!). My bosses are really demanding and not exactly helpful so I知 gonna asking your help!
I知 using SPSS to analyze a sample of 1600 outpatients affected by anxiety disorders; my research focus is on gender differences. I have many rating scale total scores (anxiety rating scales) and I知 going to analyze total scores according to gender differences. For some scales, I need mean ア SD and p-value, for some other scales I need geometric mean, P5-P95 and p-value.
Could you help me with these steps, please? I imagine for you these are such stupid questions, but imagine me alone in front of SPSS! Actually I知 studying Field痴 book (Discovering statistics using SPSS) and a lot of literature about it, but sometimes I need someone to talk about my work!
Thank you very much for your help!

Assuming that your data has already a variable: GENDER, use the COMPUTE command to form two 'dummy' variables: FEMALE; MALE.

DO IF GENDER=FEMALE.
COMPUTE FEMALE=1.
ELSE.
COMPUTE FEMALE=0.
END IF.
DO IF GENDER=MALE.
COMPUTE MALE=1.
ELSE.
COMPUTE MALE=0.
END IF.

Use the t-test to determine whether there are differences.
