How can SourceForge be made faster?

You might have noticed that every pageview on SourceForge is really slow. I wanted to start a discussion in their interest and to understand how it can be made faster. Also so they know that people care for responsiveness and they must improve.
What do you think makes SourceForge slower than most websites, and how do you think it can be solved?
Eg: Every page, be it a project, download, bugtracker or forum page has a security certificate. Would this force all HTTP page requests to be sent encrypted via HTTPS?
