Each of two power plants in the South released 22 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, the global warming [greenhouse gas], in 2011.

Greenhouse gas pollution is giant at large power plants, petroleum refineries, and chemical plants. Just 4 percent of those sites were responsible for 57 percent of the warming pollution in 2011.
