The beauty of this article is that it reminds us that newspapers are run by people and that people make mistakes. So long as we keep that in mind, we can remind ourselves that Newsday, as well as other newspapers, is not the bible and is prone to error. What is sad is that the youth and inexperience of some writers at Newsday can make them silly enough to succumb to something as banal as urban myth. Black Friday is not the busiest shopping day of the year. Normally, the Saturday before Christmas is. http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/t/thanks... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_ (shopping) If Newsday wishes to maintain the respectability that it did years ago, it simply must do a fact check before the publishing of every article it prints or posts.

What is remarkably sad to me is that Thanksgiving -- which is a time of family togetherness -- has to be sacrificed because greedy feel a need to push their crap to any idiot who would show up at 2 AM to buy it. I hope they fail, and dismally, to sell a stitch of anything to anyone during these hours. There really should be a boycott organized, rather than a shopping spree, in my opinion. "Thanks for the great Thanksgiving dinner mom -- good night everyone, it was good to see you again this year, but it's 5 PM and I have to get to sleep so I can be at the mall at MIDNIGHT." Disgusting.

This year, we will not only have a "Black Friday", but we will have many, many stores with close out, clearance prices AFTER Christmas.
Plus, don't be surprised if MANY stores go out of business after Christmas.(they wanted to "get what they could before closing") I predict that several previously successful chain stores will either close their doors completely or get acquired by someone else.
(you've seen it before, they "close for renovations" and never re-open) Mark my words.

I feel that alot of Public Serving Jobs have totally destroyed the L. I. economy.... It's really hitting rock bottom, and these people who earn money from the public, know it!!! They are also pretendind that the citizens need them more than they really do... I've been noticing alot of that baloney lately... Like the PBA commercials... Never were they on in this magnitude but with all the bickering about the huge salaries and perks, they seem to be faking alot of minor occurances.... Soooooo spoiled are they !!!
