One heck of a bonus for whoever engineered this money saving move!!

I work in the laboratory diagnostics field, and have spent the past 2 years dealing with Siemens' buyout of Bayer Diagnostics, Diagnostic Products Corp (DPC), and Dade Behring. Initially, they absorbed nearly all the employees of these companies, but no doubt their names are at the top of the cutback list. Some of these people I've known for years, and I'll be sad to see them go. It'll be a huge "brain drain" for Siemens, as many of these folks have decades of knowledge and experience. "Marty McFly and Biff" are right; the Siemens executives will probably reward themselves with big fat bonuses for throwing good workers out on the street!

This seems to be the easy way out for many companies these days. Dump those who know and probably do the most while upper management keeps their jobs, pensions and bonuses.

The real headline is:
"Siemens cutting 16,750 jobs worldwide to create larger bonuses for executives" |

Good news for Obama!

Ah, the commie comments.. wanting to control the money of others!
If the laid-off people are talented, they're better on their own. Adapt and overcome! |
|
|
So... We're not allowed to say "Com*mie" on the tribune site!!!
Wow.. what PC, brain-dead wimps. So, make that "Communist-inspired comments." Does that make the thought police feel better? |

Apparently in Europe, they worry about making "the cuts in a way that will be as socially responsible as possible". Here in good 'ol Illinois it's "employment at will" and there is no job protection, no six weeks of vacation, and no questioning the executives back in Germany.

Scale is the new way of doing business. Big is not always good. In fact you become a target. The best businesses change with the times and always stay open minded.

Huh? |

> In the U.S., AMR Corp.'s American > Airlines said last week it would cut > 900 jobs starting Aug. 1, and 8 > percent of its total work force, > which could total about 7,000 jobs. Bad economic news before the election is good news for Obama. |
