This is a so-what article to us Americans. This administration walks and talks like they are untouchable. They have had a free run with their handling of American affairs in U.S. and around the world. Until I see criminal indictments and people going to jail, this article just reminds me of why no president should be elected for two terms. Bush is the worst president ever!

All of these large, government contracts given out to the Haliburtons, Bechtels and other well-connected private companies end up costing the taxpayers billions. Until we have restored competence to our governmental regulators to look after tax-payer's money, we are going to get shafted by the private sector. And before any of you right-wing idiots declare that there is no such thing as a competent government bureaucracy, that argument is typical Republican BS. It has allowed the Republican party to decimate the ranks of competent, hard-working government employees in the name of "down-sizing the government". The scandals of Iraq no-bid contracts, Katrina no-bid contracts, etc. are all the result of the same lack of strong government oversight. No one wants a bloated government bureaucracy, but what the Republicans have given us is far worse- incompetence, graft, AND and bloated private sector bureaucracy.

No surprise here!
Meanwhile, people who want to rebuild in New Orleans, and have applied for FEMA grants, can't get any money.

It's the usual suspects. Same companies and same players wasting billions of our tax dollars.
The Inspector General's office report will spark outrage for 24 hours and then these same companies will be back at work grabbing our tax dollars for projects in Iraq, Afghanistan and wherever Hurricane Ike strikes.

Well, nice to see the Bush haters are up early this morning. Can't argue about the waste and fraud involved in this incident. But, please folks realize something .... FEMA wasn't created under the Bush Administration. The incompentency was there for decades, through both Republican and Democrat Presidents and Congress. Katrina was a unforseen problem and could have occurred under Clinton's administration too. Every Government (Fed., State, & Local) have incompetent people running programs it isn't something new. You are dealing with people and they are going to make mistakes and in a lot of cases just don't do their job. Lets be realistic, the Mayor of N.O. and the Governor of La. were not exactly role models of leaders before, during and after Katrina. The owners of these companies should be charged with fraud and convicted for taking advantage of a national emergency.

Dave, don't waste your energy trying to use logic with the Bush haters. They don't care about facts. Their only agenda is to blame George Bush & the Republicans for anything that goes wrong.
I'm sure that its George Bush's fault that Rep. Rangel (DEMOCRAT) is now in trouble foe tax evasion!

How does setting aside a portion of the contract of minority contractors fix thr problem? It only provides for equal opportunity scoundrels.

This is the way government operates. If you turn off our health care system to government, they will mess it up. Vote against Obama's government health care scheme. Think of the mess of Medicare and the disgraceful VA hospital system.

Vote for positive not bad change. Vote McCain\Palin.

I'm sick of people blaming Bush for everything that went wrong with Katrina. What happened in New Orleans was unprecedented. If you want to blame someone, blame our democrat gov. Blanco and democrate mayor Nagin! That's why we need more Republicans in office! Yes, I'm againest big government. The private sector is run much more efficiently.

No, but Michael Brown's appointment to head the organization was.

Brown was eminently unqualified for the position, another crony elevated to high office through his connection with George W. Bush.

Heckuva job, Brownie!

Wait until the government hires Fluor to clean up the Gulf Oil Spill they'll charge the taxpayers prevailing wage and hire illegal aliens to do the actual work. Just like they did after Katrina.
