"Confidence in the economy is leading to corporate takeovers."
More like confidence that an endless supply of taxpayer dollars is perceived to be available to companies like AIG on an endless basis. If there is no risk, why on Earth would they practice any restraint??

Banks and Insurance companies are all ruthless.
Not one penny more to either of them.
Help people not businesses.

As I keep repeating, Martin Luther King shouted: LET FREEDOM REIGN!" That includes using after-tax money for anything at all, including takeovers of various enterprises. Sellers don't think they are worth hanging onto, while buyers hope they will make at least a fortune in the future if they are handled "right". Both sides win, or so they think. good luck to all of them, they'll probably need it!
