Disappointing response to product issue

I was of the understanding (as per Restoration Hardware's website) that they strive to provide top notch customer service. Their products are not cheap, so great product quality and customer service are something one would expect. However, upon having a product issue and being told by RH's customer service that products in their retail stores are sold 'as is', tells me they are another company who over-promises and under-delivers to their customers.
