Army defectors are in the 10's of thousands with a great deal of them in Turkey. Yes Assad has butchered some of the defectors that would not kill innocent people but a large portion are organizing to make an assault on Damascus. If I were Assad I would pack up the wife and kids and get out of town while Russia wants him. His 8 billion sent to Russia will be useless to a dead leader.
