Just got back from Bermuda on the Azamara Journey,(sailed from Bayonne,NJ) it was one of the worst cruising experiences ever..... for a supposedly newly refurbished cruise ship,on it's 3rd voyage, we found the ship was still not ready for the water. Many things were broken or missing, for example: 1) The jacuzzi on the upper private deck (cost more money for the privilege of privacy) was old and outdated, 1/2 the jets in did not work.
2) The cabinet doors in our stateroom were literally hanging by their hinges.
3) The commode in our stateroom backed up and would not flush several times during the week.
4) During our first docking (in St. Georges, Bermuda) maintenance men were painting the outside of the ship creating nauseous paint fumes on the back half of the ship that lasted for days.
5)While leaving the mens locker room in the Aqua spa area the door handle came off in my hands.
6) During breakfast and lunch in the Windows Cafe (buffet ala carte) it was almost always impossible to find a clean piece of silverware to eat with.
7)At different locations around the pool deck and buffet restaurant, there were juice stations were you could get ice tea, lemonade, oj, ect., however most of the time, there were no glasses to put the drinks into.
8) Several doors into the formal dining room had panes of glass missing out of them.
I literally could go on and on... for a new cruise line that boasts the best of everything, they need to go a long way to make it up to their passengers. My wife and I were with a group of 32 people and ALL of us were never so disappointed. I would definitely think twice before I recommend this cruiseline to my friends. And also the poor crew seemed severely understaffed and severely overworked, as we talked to some who were working 20 hour days and still managed to keep a smile on their faces, and tried to create as pleasant experience as possible... Sincerely, Gary Carota

I just returned from a cruise to Bermuda aboard the so called "luxury" cruise ship. We left Bayone May 19 and returned
on the 26th. We had smiles on our faces with great expectations when we left. The ship had been praised by our travel agent. When we got off the ship we called our travel agent straight from our bus before even getting home and telling him to NEVER sell another poor sucker
a passage on The Journey.
This ship was not what we had signed up for as we had cruised Celebrity 2 times previous on the Century and the Summit and loved it. The Journey is run down, in need of repair. They were painting it when we landed in Bermuda and those noxious fumes remained with us the rest of the trip.
I am an asthmatic and had to use my inhaler due to the fumes. My husband got headaches several times from the fumes.
The crew were wearing masks when we came on board. No such luxury was afforded to us. We had to bear the smell.
They were also sawing wood on the top deck and there was saw dust everywhere.
The piping on our lamp in our room was falling off. The hinges on the cabinet were falling apart. There was rubbage in the vanity drawer from the previous occupants. Also There was no minirefridgerator in the rooms. Several of our group of 31 had medication that either required refridgeration or took pills that required milk and could not store milk in our room.
The commediane from the show often made refereance to the buffets and grand buffet. NON exsistant. After 9:30PM the only food available was room service and then you waited up to an hour for delivery of that.
We did not even have a room service directory for the first 3 days despite asking 4 people including guest relations for one. We were told by each person, "Yes Madam we will do that right away" 3 Days later is their right away.
Also we had to pay for the sea therapy pool which we never had to do before on a Celebrity line. The spa itself was only half functional and if you sat in one end the jets were not working at all. The tiles were also coming up around the tub. Also the screen was missing from the filter and one of our party lost the diamond from her ring and it could not be retrieved because that screen was not on there. Unfortunately other people in our party had noticed it some time earlier and told the staff about it and it was not tended to either. Maybe in 3 days!!!
We booked for a 1350 passanger cruise on the Zenith and feel we got shafted into a tugboat size outdated barge. The stage was no bigger than a post card and the entertainment was mediocore to say the least.
We have cruised several times and this was a big disgrace to the Celebrity name. I feel like I wasted $2000.
Sincerely, Rose Mowery

I too just returned home from the Azamara Journey,May 19th 2007 from Bayonne NJ.
I booked with over 30 friends from work. I was so excited to take my husband on his first cruise. I could not rave about how cruise vacations were the way to go. Well after this trip I may never cruise again I know for sure it will not be with azamara and possibly even Celebrity. This ship was not ready for passengers, things were literally falling apart, from door handles to over flowing toilets. You could not find a clean piece of silverware to eat with in windows cafe, or a clean glass for iceed tea, no less a place to sit and eat. I do however applaud the crew, for being over worked and under staffed they really tried, and always had a smile on their faces. But it was the worse cruise expirience I ever had. My poor husband did not get the cruise expirience he deserved. I would NOT reccomend cruising with Azamara.

My husband and I also were on the may 19 on the Journey to Bermuda. Where to begin. As everyone has said there were never any clean glasses or silverware. The tables were covered with dirty dishes . We had a veranda suite( ha). There was no privacy divide between us and the cabin next to us. One am when we ordered room service to eat on the balcony, seconds before we stepped outside water came rushing from the deck above. They were power washing above deck.It happened a second time after they sent someone to dry the area.No evening buffets, whole group of us in search of late nite cup of coffee.Entertainment-high school caliber. No activities that drew people to attend. What's with the " White Night" Come on Celebrity. Bermuda is a very popular destination, but not on the Journey.

what's that old phrase about turning a sow's ear into a silk purse? or the one about putting lipstick on a pig?
just returned (6/25/07) from Celebrity Cruise (a forgettable experience more akin to a floating 24/7 QVC Commercial - jewelry and fur peddled non-stop from port to port via on-ship carpet bagger type saleswoman holding Theater sized seminars and expounding her purported buying "expertise" via ship's cable TV broadcast all hours of the day and night) during which staff and Cruise "SALES Director" said that new Azamarra line was the answer to our prayers for quality, cleanliness and a nicer, more refined experience.
we were advised that new Azamarra line were completely refurbished ships from prior Renaissance Cruise Line that were only put into service "3 weeks ago" and were a higher caliber cruise line launched by Celebrity Cruises to compete with the likes of Regent Cruises.
from what appears above - looks like back to Regent we go.
the Celebrity Summit by the way shares the tired, tattered, long in the drawers appearance and feel of what is described above, crowded "Cafeteria" (these are not "Buffets") chow and grub lines, filthy plates and trays galore [taking special note of the breakfast bacon still laying on the carpeting during the curiously timed 5-10 p.m. sushi "buffet"], filthy service ware, the smallest (pixie-sized) water glasses to be found on the planet [second only to paper dixie cups], a ridiculous cold-cut extravaganza termed a "Buffet Extravaganza Galore" served immediately after the late seating in the main dining room with purported ice sculptures lit with Malibu-type garden lights replete with the plastic spire that one pokes through the sod in one's yard to hold the lights in place, and what appeared and is believed to be an incessant peppering of wait staff attempting to "sell" either plastic all you can drink soda bottles, cocktails, coffee mugs filled with coffee and alcohol first thing in the morning, or cheap knock-off purported "collectible" wall art of the caliber one might earn with blue chip or green stamps from the neighborhood grocery store.
i must say, we feel privileged and rather special not to have experienced any sewage backup, although it is doubtful that the bathrooms on the Summit were truly cleaned on any regular basis.
if Celebrity can't manage its existing Cruise Line within a modicum of competence it is doubtful that a higher end line (Azamarra) will make it.
thanks for all the above referenced information, which resulted in the Azamarra brochures being put into the circular file - and we'll be retreating to Regent for the next booking.

Sorry to read that you all had such bad cruises on Azamara Journey in 2007. Perhaps this is when Celebrity originally purchased the Journey and the Quest. My husband and I completed an eleven day European cruise on the Journey in October of this year (2011). The ship went from Rome to Lisbon. We decided on Azamara based on cruise critic reviews.
IT WAS THE BEST CRUISE WE HAVE EVER TAKEN and we are hooked! Simply spectacular!

The ship and crew were wonderful. Our verandah stateroom was fabulous. There was not one thing that we could find to complain about.
