So, the state is allowing Progress Energy a 25% increase? Hmm, something smells real bad here. Apparently the state is going over the top to make it nicey nice for this company and to hell with it's citizens. Sorry, but is there anybody that really believes this kind of increase is justified or just robbery with the help of our state government?

It's called robbery.
And the people do not have a multi million dollar lobby to buy our way in.
But I also believe once the cap and trade ponzi scheme is instituted, will we only be allowed a few hours of electricity a day because no one could afford anymore?
Bonfires in the streets for all to huddle around!~

So basically, gas prices fall, Progress Energy still wants their 25% increase b/c they want to pay for a nuclear plant, that they will own and our bill will NEVER go down (they never do). The politicians who approved this should be ashamed of themselves.

Shut your water heater off. Unplug everything else before you leave for work in the morning. There is no way in hell these rip-off artists deserve. If everyone stops using the power while they are not home, they will make perhaps LESS than what they were getting before the increase.

How could anyone have agreed to this rate hike in these times. It is absurd.

It is ridiculous that with all our technology that we cannot keep energy cost from rising. It is a constant scheme....how much we they eat? Gas prices go to $4/gal and now dip because we are in recession and OPEC fears us not coming to the pump. Now we are going to dig on the household. Hey, nuclear energy was not suppose to cost more! The company are getting away with murder. They don't have to invest in all this capital they kept asking to build. They are charging customers for something to be built 30 years from now. Nice scam! Why is everything a scam today?

Just remember kidos, Uncle Obama is going to tax the heck out of the coal industry. This means all those federal tax savings you were hoping for from Uncle Obama are going to go right to your electric bill if you use a company dependent on coal. The bill is going up and Obama hasnt even been sworn in....

Agreed.
Now just wait in eager anticipation for the global poverty tax and health care tax that he will bestow upon us.
Global poverty tax-is that a tax that will reduce everyone that is not in the elite classes to poverty?
To continue on the same course of action and expect change is insane.

I lived in Seminole County from 1974 to 1996 and remember paying very high eletric bills, in part to the "fuel adjustment" charge scam. I now live in a 2 story 3600 sq ft house and my electric bill is $55 a month in the winter and around $90 in the summer, that's with 2 A/C units running. The Florida Public Service Commission is being bought and paid for by lobbist. There's no reason Floridians should pay outragous prices for electricity and water.

This isn't about electricity, but it's nice seeing your bills coming Down..

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Piedmont Natural Gas Company has filed a request with the utilities commission to lower rates for customers in North and South Carolina.

Earlier this month, the company previously filed a request with the Tennessee Regulatory Authority to reduce customer billing rates in Tennessee.

If approved by the respective state regulatory bodies the proposed reductions would go into effect on Jan.1, 2009.

With the economy in the dumpster, the majority cannot afford to change to solar or 'go green'.
With the elite pushing windmill corridors for electricity, they forgot to tell the public there is currently no method to deliver that electricity to anyone's home or business.
No one wants miles of long chains of those huge transmission 'poles' in their backyard-just ask Ted Kennedy.

Before you whine too much over your proposed electric bills you might want to take a peek at what your retiree medical contributions jumped up to for 2009. Mine disappeared already a while back, soon as I was Medicare eligible, forcing me into an expensive supplemental all on my own dime and the amount they will be taking out for my spouse in 2009 who isn't Medicare eligible and won't be for five years more than doubled. Of course we all know also the joke that they played on us about property taxes.

Let's stay on topic. What does this CURRENT huge increase have to do with Obama? And how about those gas prices we've had for 7 years. His fault too? I think those with common sense and intelligence will see where you and your ilk are coming from.

The increases have not been fought off by the Republican Gov...Obama was a Senator of another state during that time...where does your logic come from? Shouldn't we look at who's in charge in our state? Who's watching out for the little guy in Florida right now? Where's the Gov?

Going Green IS affordable, if you know where to look. The newer, efficient light bulbs can take up to two decades to pay for themselves (even though they are more efficient, they are also more expensive-small savings). Solar panels are also great, but there is such a range of pricing, It's hard to know just what you are getting.
We added 3M film to our home 2 yrs ago. Our energy costs dropped almost 25% in the first year, and we still have the lowest bills in our neighborhood. Payback of less than 2 yrs in savings. Do what you want, but we noticed the difference immediately.
ps- they are probably running good prices now with the economy being slow!
