Progress Energy to use power from new wood waste energy plant
“This is truly the way to go in the state of Florida”
Progress Energy Florida said Thursday it will partner with a renewable energy company to purchase electricity produced from waste wood.
Atlanta-based Biomass Gas & Electric plans to build its plant in Liberty County. It is expected to produce enough power for 46,000 homes and be on line by 2011. The partnership was announced at the governor's mansion.
'These companies have stepped up to the plate, they're doing the right thing and I couldn't be more proud of them,' said Gov. Charlie Crist, who signed orders that will require power companies to increase renewable energy use and lower carbon dioxide emissions. Read moreFull Story
