Callahan - You just lost my vote. I am a democrat who is now favoring Dent. Callahan has no understanding of the business model for PPL and how its profits are made. Callahan is "uninformed."

I don't know if Callahan's reasoning is correct BUT I am really disgusted with the huge sum of $$$$ that PPL made . At least he seems to care about the regular citizen.
As far as I am concerned the PUC MUST GO ! They have never done anything to help the public and is ONLY a YES group for whichever utility wants a raise .

PPL is spending money like crazy now to the tune of $160 Milion. They can not have this much money in their account in order to request another rate hike, which is on it's way. Look at all of their brand new trucks on the road. Look at all of the new poles and upgrades going in. Some of that is Government money. PPL is also forcing their outside Linemen to work 10 hour days plus Saturday. This is another way to spend some money. Engineers and Management for PPL get bonuses upwards of $10,000 per year. The next time you see that Blue envelope in the mail. That dollar amount is going towards someone's next bonus. PPL thanks you from the bottom of their cash filled pockets.

--Do you know what fuel costs? A lot. That's where energy comes from. It takes money to make power.
--The trucks are leased, not owned.
--The new poles and upgrades are replace old poles and ensuring the lights stay on...since its been a long time since the infrastructure was upgraded.
--After taxes,$10,000 bonus is not much for people who work on a salary and much more than 40 hrs a week.
--You are quite an uninformed person.......

Yes, we all want the local companies to succeed BUT not off of the citizens footing the bill of extreme. If you own your home - you must put aside $ to make upgrades and repairs . I believe that ALL COMPANIES should and must do the same . Not request and receive higer rates so that the lines can be extended to other states to SELL MORE ENERGY .

Thats why we have energy providers to lower your electricity bill, just make sure you choose the right company. Avoid contracts, and sign up fee's. Here is a good company I found and I am saving, not paying PP&L rates anymore. The website is www.viridian.com/windpower

#1 I am not a relative or employee of PP&L
#2 The American dream is simple, work hard, become successful...Do Not rely on others
#3 If you are unhappy with the rates, do 1 of 2 things, change suppliers or stop using electric.

I lowered my bill by making simple changes in useage habits and buying more energy efficient products.

PUC is the problem here, rubber-stamping everything PPL asks for. Meanwhile, they aren't maintaining the equipment, I can't remember the last time I went an entire month without a power outage--I should be able to get a refund for all the money I paid for "line maintenance" on my bills over the last 7 years because I am obviously not receiving this part of the service.

I saw neither the dems or pubs in the statehouse OR governor rendell doing anything to re-up the rate cap laws.

Who's blaming who?

Callahan's statements about PP&L's profits are completely bogus and election motivated. When a storm takes out your power, where do you think the money comes from to pay for the emergency overtime? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the money comes from profits! Unlike the government, which, when it spends money it doesn't have, iit just prints the difference, PP&L and other businesses have to earn the money FIRST, before they can spend it. That Mayor Callahan has no understanding of this simple concept, show his complete ignorance of how a business operates.

--So, when a car hits a pole and causes an outage, I guess you want a refund for that too. Funny.
--You must live on charity then. Get a job.
