What do you think they'd say on the eve of a 30% increase?
The whole corporation isn't doing a 30% increase. Pay attention. Odd that your food prices have gone up more than that in 10 years and you don't complain?? Why?

I hope they go out of business!
That would be great, then we could have PECO or METED service the Lehigh Valley! And both are more expensive today. YOU'LL LOVE IT! Have a drink with Boscola while you are at it.

PPL does not know how to run a market based business because they have been regulated for so long. And it's beyond foolish to give a MONOPOLY carte blanch on a trapped market.

They need regulations. They need overseers. And when this happens, suddenly, the PP&L that provided us with reliable energy at a reasonable cost returns and men like Busby and Campbell can stop rolling over in the graves.

Deregulation - Ronald Reagan's legacy. PHAT! PP&L DIED preparing for this. They went from 10,000 employees to 2,500. And their prices are skyrocketing.

Deregulation worked! And a bunch on numbskulls broke it.

The impairment charge should be added back to NI because it was a one-time event, so their normalized income is probably positive.

The point is, you need to get your electricity from somewhere. PPL is still the lowest cost in the area. Yes, they are going to screw us. Our legislators have caused the problem and screwed us for years.(So what else is new). Had the idiots not tied the Ulitities hands for years - and it's the whole state - this would not be happening. Harrisburg has seen the folly in not thinking ahead. Are you surprised? Fast Eddie is dragging out the budget to get an income tax increase rather than cutting out pork spending. If the Pittsburg Penguins want a new arena, we are paying for it. The problems are pretty centralized as I see it.

"Excluding special items, earnings from ongoing operations were $0.32 per share in the second quarter of 2009, compared with $0.50 per share a year ago. "

Nice of the paper to leave this part out. It sure sounds like they're trying to incite the masses against PPL.

Most company shareholders appreciate seeing the company become more efficient in their operations. Developing a culture of sound financial management is a positive (not negative) thing.

The MC figure that shows a 2 cent loss includes the special write-offs. So how does that missing 32 cent figure (that exclude the write-offs) incite the masses against PPL?

"The Allentown energy company this morning reported a loss of $7 million for the quarter, or 2 cents per share. That compares to profits of $190 million, or 50 cents per share a year ago."

Because it's not really a loss. People will read it and start yelling that they're doing it just to justify the rate increase and layoffs! In reality, it's a profit which is completely boring. God forbid!
