The Maryland Republicans in Annapolis voted 100% for deregulation on the advise from the likes of Enron. Some Democrats were also stupid and retarded and fooled into voting for it. Many Democrats were smart and wise and voted against it but they didn't have the numbers. Many Democrats who were previously fooled have wisely changed their minds about deregulation.<quoted text>
Who deregulated BGE/Constellation and created the opportunity for that to happen? How have those people been held accountable for that decision?
Who decided to implement price caps so that competition would not emerge? How have those people been held accountable for that decision?
Who reneged on the agreement sending a clear message to potential competitors that agreements with the State are worthless and further discouraging competition? How have those people been held accountable for that decision?
Your beloved government created what we have now and you are complicit in allowing them to deny that fact.
Also, if the state were to establish its own energy distribution, trading, and/or producing company using local energy sources it could out-bid and undersell Constellation in this wonderful deregulated market. The cost of producing electricity in Maryland is between 3 and 7 cents a kilowatt and BGE is charging about 12 cents. So, if they want competition even the 'inefficient' and 'unaccountable' state could easily under price and compete with a deregulated monopoly like Constellation.
