Never in the history of America has the Congress been so divided. We owe this to Obama who started out showing his racist side and still does today. He does not work with the Reps - and its his way or no way. He has LIED so many times - "I will not raise taxes on the lower and middle class" they will have $30.00 additional taxes taken from their pay check.$30.00 is a tank of gas so they can get to work. I am begining to believe he wants us all to stay home and rely only on the Government to feed, cloth and house the lower income people. Some of them want to work. Looks like how Hitler started with his people.

Really? Obama's way would have been taxes raised on all those making over $250k. Obviously he DID work with the GOPasaurs and ended up settling for $450k.

And just how do you think Social Security will be funded if you keep cutting the FICA tax which is responsible for that $30/month tax increase? Social Security is already in the red, and you want to make it WORSE?

Why don't we just stop the entire FICA tax withholding and then you'll have $100 more in every paycheck. Of course you won't be able to retire at age 65 or even 70, but I guess that's worth the cost of a few Starbucks moca-lattes every day.....

Since only about 15% of Americans pay no federal taxes, we're in no danger.

IDIOT - Social Security is NOT A PENSION PLAN. It never was set up to be a pension plan.

Call it whatever you want, but if people aren't paying the FICA withholding, then there will be no money to pay social security benefits to current recipients, much less any future ones.

If that's what you want, then by all means keep lobbying for reducing the FICA withholding.

Social security was set up to supplement people's investment income when they retire, but the simple reality is that without social security most Americans could never afford to retire.

Maybe you want to go back to the "good old days" when 50% of seniors lived in poverty without healthcare insurance or worked until they keeled over dead.

I do not know where you got your figures but I did not come up with your figures. I scanned Americans not paying income tax and got the following:

Chart of the Week: Nearly Half of All Americans Don’t Pay Income Taxes
Rob Bluey
February 19, 2012 at 9:32 am

This year’s Index of Dependence on Government presented startling findings about the sharp increase of Americans who rely on the federal government for housing, food, income, student aid or other assistance.
Another eye-popping number was the percentage of Americans who don’t pay income taxes, which now accounts for nearly half of the U.S. population. Meanwhile, most of that population receives generous federal benefits.
“One of the most worrying trends in the Index is the coinciding growth in the non-taxpaying public,” wrote Heritage authors Bill Beach and Patrick Tyrrell.“The percentage of people who do not pay federal income taxes, and who are not claimed as dependents by someone who does pay them, jumped from 14.8 percent in 1984 to 49.5 percent in 2009.”
That means 151.7 million Americans paid nothing in 2009. By comparison, 34.8 million tax filers paid no taxes in 1984.
The rapid growth of Americans who don’t pay income taxes is particularly alarming for the fate of the American form of government, Beach and Tyrrell warned. Coupled with higher spending on government programs, it is already proving to be a major fiscal challenge.
“This trend should concern everyone who supports America’s republican form of government,” Beach and Tyrrell wrote.“If the citizens’ representatives are elected by an increasing percentage of voters who pay no income tax, how long will it be before these representatives respond more to demands for yet more entitlements and subsidies from non-payers than to the pleas of taxpayers to exercise greater spending prudence?”

There was sufficient funds in SS - as I told you before and then the politicians got their hands on it and spent it - now why should the people keep feeding the SPENDERS HABITS when they can NOT BALANCE THEIR BOOKS. It is like pouring SAND DOWN A RAT HOLE. Wise up by the time you can draw it - there will be none - even if everyone pays double today. Talk to Obama talk about ENTITLEMENTS.

That had to be over 100 years ago. My father did not live that way nor my mother and they both would be in their 100's if they were alive. My father got a pension check. Remember back then people did not expect the government to support them. They had more pride in themselves and did not want to be a burden on the government.

Federal incomes taxes aren't the only federal taxes people pay. There's social security, medicare, gas tax, etc, etc.

The reason a large portion of Americans don't pay federal income taxes is because they barely make enough income to survive on as it is. What's the point of taking even more money from them that they already don't have?

Which is why every penny of that $2.4 trillion taken out of social security needs to be repaid. Taking MORE out of the system only makes the problem worse.

By law that money has to be repaid, which is why the federal govt had to make up the shortfall in social security last year from the general fund. That money has to come from somewhere- i.e. taxe revenue.

It's gonna hurt like hell, but that $2.4 trillion WILL be repaid in full making social security solvent for another 50 years.

Tell me how you wrote your comment from what I wrote and called me a RACIST. You are a RACIST and you have no idea what nationality I am - you think only the black man would work/vote with Obama so you made me white since I do not like his policies, his way of working, and his spending money, not taking responsibility for any actions and blaming everyone else for his failures and not working with the Reps as he campaigned for and said he would and the LIES he campaigned on were nothing but LIES. He said he would not raise taxes on the middle and poor class and all of a sudden they are raised. Not only are you an idiot but you have NO IDEA what you are even talking about - it is either that you worship Obama so much or its the drugs that has your head up your azz. RACIST.

The key words from you blurb are "pension check".

Newsflash- the majority of companies no longer give out pension checks because they can't afford them and remain competitive with the cheap overseas labor force that has developed over the past 50 years.

So without that magical pension check from a private employer the majority of seniors would be left completely on their own without social security.

Remember what happened to everyone's personal investments in 2008?

I agree - but this is what Obama campaigned on - no tax raises for the poor and the middle class and that is NOT what has happened. Everyone taxes went up and it was only to be those making 450 thousand or more.
The seniors need to prepare for retirement. If they do not have a pension plan then they need to make sure they have 401K plans or IRA's - when I retired I did not have to depend on SS.

I agree with this also but the government should have to repay in full. Lets take the monies from the politicians pay and lets see how fast they can put it back into SS. The problem with the tax effort - is they spend more and faster than we the tax payers can put back into SS and they are spending it on stuff - nothing of value.

I thought all companies had pension checks - I have been retired for several years and I would think the unions would not let the pensions be taken away from the employees.
