Isn't it amazing how after a 26 year (1978 to 2006) free ride the town folded with the slightest bit of competition.

Most of the casinos sucked the money out with minimal reinvestment. The city government is unbelievably corrupt. The CCC has bee asleep at the wheel most of the time, changing the rules to please owners, Trump and Harrahs, for instance. That's why it was such a shocker to everyone in town when the CCC stripped Columbia Sussix of its operators license. And, of course, there's the Pinnacle fiasco. The next time a company comes to town and wants to close a place to rebuild, the Casino Control Commission has to demand that there be a plan in place, financing in place and a definite time frame in place.

Here's my opinion re your post.

The Sands former owners were losing money, & wanted to sell.

One of 2 things could have happened----find a buyer (they did) or completely close---- and leave the property to deteriorate.

They did have Pinnacle buy this property, did the whole nine yards of media excitment of an auction of stuff, did a grandiose implosion (Vegas Style)---& now are back-pedaling.

Nothing new to us who've been there seen that w/other "so called" proposed casino building.

Just have to LOL w/those who "BLAME" the down turn w/NJ casino revenues to PA.

For years there were Conn. & Del. casinos w/no loss to NJ. THEN the NJ & AC politicos decided to go SMOKE FREE/OR A NARROW/SMALL smoke friendly enviornment.

Players like myself stopped going.

I've said it before, I'll say it again---there are many reasons why people in todays economy don't do what they did-----BOTTOM LINE; the NJ & AC politicos NEVER should have given ANOTHER REASON for people not to come & spend money.

Trust me---husband & I are NOT gambling "IDIOTS".

We are older, live in a paid mortgage free house, have a NICE DISCRECIANARY INCOME, savings, etc.

We are picky & choose were our money is spent!

Bottom line, if a place is not to OUR liking----we don't go & spend.

I knew Ed Yung (Columbia Sussix) back in our Days Inn days. He was a very ethical and honest person then. Board members and politicians don't have the foggiest notion the work and sweat that goes into the accomplishments of Ed and for that matter Trump. They just erase all of these efforts with the stroke of the pen after a terse discussion or from some reason none of us will ever know. My heart goes out to Ed Yung.

The casinos are filled with old people on O2 with walkers and holding on to their last opportunity to make money....sadly, in AC that win will never come.

The Sands was a profitable small casino. Carl Ichan just wanted to make his profit and leave town to focus on the Nevada properties, which have since been sold at a profit. Just business. Pinnacle was the only sucker willing to pay his asking price.
