The economy will continue to lag as long as Obama and now Jerry Brown continue to wage war on business. Unless you plan on selling muffins or cleaning houses, most of us need an EMPLOYER to survive. Local non-profits, which are probably more aware of the level of suffering out there than most of us,would do well to point out the link between Obama's policies and continuing unemployment. Maybe the next time you see Sam Farr you can remember that he helped put us in this eternal recession by supporting the Administration's policies.

Let's add the local politicos to that list! Santa Cruz is NOT business friendly to larger companies and we can't all own coffee shops and boutiques. We need to fill the vacant space left by Lipton, Wrigley and others that have fled to areas that made them welcome. We need more than UCSC and small service companies if this area is to survive.

The "feelgood" media with it's Disneyland mentality will be the last to acknowledge the reality that Wall Street and their puppets in Washington have already sent us over the edge. Printing money is all that has kept us from MadMax so far. Not for much longer.

Now they are even talking about the "wealth effect" as their last hope. That is, the illusion, via contrived charts and reports that are meant to show improvement and make people/companies spend. Except no one wants to (or can).

FRAUDclosure, Hedge fund arrests, Europe tanking and the race to the currency bottom will bankrupt the world. IMO, that is not an exaggeration. It is starting is Ireland, Portugal and Spain now.

I hear the woman that told Obama she was 'exhausted at defending him' has been fired from her job at a non-profit. Isn't she a Black Woman?

That Santa Cruz lacks district elections & the UCSC sheep elect fiscally insane Council members that drive businesses away is common knowledge...

BTW, the Euro debt bomb countries are called the PIIGS; Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece & Spain.

Plus riots in France, huge budget cuts in the U.K.; Winston Churchill was correct: "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

Obama = redistribution = socialism; same for Santa Cruz!!

Extending new entitlements are not fiscally sane or defend-able moves by our leaders.

Just keep quiet about it...

The report also shows that there are more Hispanics living in Santa Cruz County than Caucasian.

That means zero diversity here. We need some more phillipinos, indians, chinese, asian and fewer latinos.

I wonder if this report only survey legal residents or the illegal aliens were complaining about their kids not getting a good education.

Someone obviously flunked basic arithmetic. Having more Hispanics (or any ethnic group) than Caucasians doesn't mean there is zero diversity; if anything, it means the opposite of that. As for needing more "indians", do you mean people from India, Indonesians, or Native Americans? And the last time I checked, Chinese people were Asian.

Idiots constantly trying to turn any issue into an excuse to bash the Hispanic population need to move to a country where racism and blame are embraced, and diversity opposed. Clearly, they're not true Americans.

Congratulations to the teachers from the 3 Parent Education Nursery Schools ( www.3pens.org ) for being awarded the United Way Community Heroes awards in education. The programs are treasured and the teachers are definitely community heroes.

The United Way report shows our economy is improving? Cool!

It coresponds with the culmination of the Bidden-Obama "Summer of Recover Tour" which touted our great recovery!

But what about the continued Sate unemployment levels of 12.5%?
the continued National unemployment rate stuck at 9.6%?
our continued State deficit spending and estimated next years budgetary shortfalls exceeding $25 BILLION?

Yes, life is good in Liberal-Land! Housing prices have risen, private retirement accounts including 401K's have fully recovered, and jobs are available for all?

Thank you United Way for being the expert in economic reporting! Thank you!
