Unfair Delivery Prices

United States

#1 Dec 15, 2010
Anybody else has/had this problem?
I've been frustrated with Pier 1 for not offering a more reasonable delivery service, and no one seemed to be able supply the name of any alternative except finding someone yourself to pick up your furniture.

I mean the girl literally said to me that I should probably use Uhaul because it's cheaper. I suppose so,but I'm not exactly sure how that solved the problem of carrying furniture into my house.

I live approximately 5 blocks from the nearest Pier1 and the cost to deliver anything at all is $150, so you can imagine my annoyance at the high and ridiculous price tag. I ended up not buying any big ticket items.
I live in Oregon. Im curious to know if its the same price nationwide?

I was determined to find a solution and found a company named y1buddy that I paid like 5 bucks each time I use them to find help and I end up paying like $25 bucks for one delivery and $45 bucks for another delivery because I thought I needed more help, but it's been a life saver and I
Just thought I would share just in case anyone wanted a cheaper alternative and was as frustrated as I was.

Pier 1 doesn't actually handle the deliveries themselves anymore like they used to. They went to an "outside" company that Pier 1 has no affiliation with. Frustrating yes, but I know my Pier 1 doesn't use that company because they had so many problems with them. The associates at that store have the names of other very reliable local delivery people and the costs are extremely reasonable. Sorry to hear you had such problems at your Pier 1, but it's not like that everywhere.

I've been a Store Manager for Pier 1 for 5 years now and have never heard of Pier 1 having a delivery company, The Pier 1 Stores in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi do not have delivery, and Pier 1 is very much the same company wide with every store. It has always been up to the customer to find there own delivery or like retailgirl said, we can offer suggestions to local delivery companies. You can pay Pier 1 for delivery and we just forward that money to the delivery company or the customer can pay the delivery company directly, either way , Pier 1 does not handle delivery nor choose the price of delivery. Hope this is helpful.

I deliver in Houston and would like more Pier 1 stores to call me for furniture delivery and assembly.
