Dress code change

I agree that the new dress code is a little ridiculous. I personally had to buy new clothes to meet this dress code, seeing how I previously used to wear bright colors. They would have been better of making solid color aprons in a neutral color. I don't see the need for people to quit over this new dress code though... It's not THAT bad!

I love these people complaining about having to unload these measly "15ft" trucks at 1pm in jeans and one of the 7 colors. I welcome you to come to sunny SW Florida to unload one of our 45ft trucks in the middle of the day on a concrete slab. Unlike many Pier 1 Imports, I work at a free-standing store, so there is no loading dock for a truck to come up to. Also, I work at one of the highest volume stores in the company, so our trucks are must bigger than the norm. In a nutshell, I'll say this in the only ways I see fit, QUIT B*TCHIN!

When are we going to get our new aprons anyway? I quit 3 months ago, when they first started talking about the new dress code, and was really disappointed when I came back, and had to wear a dirty X-Large apron!!! Just wondering??? Btw I'm only back to help out for the holidays:)

I came back only temporarily, I quit to get into real estate, and just finished all of my classes. My manager that originally hired me, 4 years ago just moved to a store near me, and asked me to come help her out. I am waiting to take the state exam, and when I'm done I may stay on a couple days a week during the holidays for the discount, and to help her out.

What is Alex up to these days ?? And Sharon? Here inTexas we think they are Meth heads. Somebody is inhaling a substance to be purchasing this CRAP they are sending us. We work in the stores every day. we know what customers want. We are filled with overpriced merchandise that does not sell because it is crap. We are now TJ Max,thank you Alex. i hope some day you realize how to run a company are you spending to much time with Papa Johns? You are clueless!! We are all on a sinking ship and the captain jumped ship! Corporate needs to own the mistakes they have made and fix them before it is too late, we are more than half way there.

I left the company last year, but don't they give you a bonus in lieu of the raise? That is what they did for managers when I worked there. You couldn't get a raise once you hit the cap, but you could get a little kick back each year if your review was good.
And also, every company has a salary cap. That isn't just P1.

I agree with you 100% If it were just the dress code that changed that would be no big deal, but when is it going to end? I have been with the company for over 10 years. Pretty much everything that I have earned over the years has been taken away and soon my health insurance (family coverage) will be gone too. We will have to pay an extra $400 a month to go through my husbands employer, too bad my hours were also cut. It is easy for people to say just leave and find another job, but I like my job, and have had a decade worth of raises, the most recent being my last, I was told that I am at the top of the pay scale for my position and will no longer recieve raises. A salary cap? It's not like I'm a professional athelete making millions. It is very apparent that they want the tenured employees gone, to save money of course. Too bad that the people that actually care about their jobs are being forced out, they are the ones needed to help the company bounce back... Sorry I went off the subject of dress code, but I sure feel better after ranting a moment!

Dirty? Tell you manager to wash that. Ugh. I use to throw them out after someone left. I thought everyone at least deserved a new apron.

I think you are right about the merchandise. I was looking at a catalog with my mom the other day. My mom was like "you know these sofas are nice, but you can get something like this at a regular furniture store for like $300-$400 instead of $999." She did agree, however, that Pier 1 has competitive pricing on lamps.
Also, wtf with the merchandise mix, man? I mean really? I've been in retail forever, and I have a trained eye. However, even I find it overwhelming when I come into the store. I agree you all needed a larger assortment, but buy the right things. Also, decide what type of store you are going to be. I can't figure out if it is a furniture store trying to be Williams Sonoma or a Bath and Body Works store trying to be a furniture store. I mean what is up with the soaps, really? By this point Sharon should have learned that crap doesn't sell at Pier 1. You have had that olive oil soap at $1 for a 11 months now, and you still have hundreds of them in the store.

LMAO !!!!
Did you see stock today - dropped to 96 cents and closed at $1.50. Maybe they should pay employees in those soaps?:)

I am so happy I left this company...once Alex took charge the company gradually became worse and worse. Instead of making things easier for the store managers, they made it a constant struggle to keep the store teams' morale up. Changing the dress code will not solve or help anything...the upper management is scared and is now grasping at straws...toxic workplace is exactly what I would call it

I am so glad to hear that others have issues with the dress code, and the fact that Pier 1 doesn't give a crud about any of it's employees. I was recently hired, and amazed at the lack of respect and dignity the managers showed me. I went in with a positive, upbeat attitude, and got my hours cut the first week, and was told sorry, but they couldn't make the payroll. Why then, are they still hiring as many employees as possible, when there are so many of us who were dedicated and ready to work? I went out and spent money I didn't have on the proper clothing, and for what?! Pier 1 is just a joke.

I agree that Pier 1's dress code is ridiculous. I was recently hired, and I'm already quitting. It's not just the dress code, but the utter lack of respect and rudeness I have been shown by the managers at the store I got hired at.
I went out and bought the proper clothing, with money I didn't have, and they cut my hours down to nothing the first week I am there. I was motivated, positive, and cheerful, and still treated like garbage. Pier 1 doesn't care about it's employees at all. They are nothing but a big joke. Good riddance!

Check the stock price; I hope all current employees are searching for new jobs. Bankruptcy and/or layoffs are coming--look for a January "One Big Closing Sale"

Hey, now's the time to act if anyone wants to make themselves a junk tycoon with Pier 1 stock currently trading at .40 per share. Maybe Alex and Cary can rush to the rescue of the company and buy up what remaining stock they don't already own. Has anyone seen the current Pier 1 t.v. commercial that is airing? How many years has it been since Pier 1 had a commercial and now that the end is near Alex chooses to start advertising again? Coming next: Alex and Cary go to Washington and beg for a government bailout.

Is there some point to your post? If you sold Michael's than you should be financially sound. Your posts are unprofessional and certainly not the way that anyone seeking an executive job goes about doing so.

Wow, I live in the Ft. Worth area, and today I was watching the 4 o'clock news when the teasor came on that a Ft. Worth based retail gaint was going out of business. Of course I stayed tune to see a guy standing in front of a Pier 1 store saying that he was deeply dissappointed that PIER 1 was going out of business. They even showed a Pier 1 gift card up close, saying that you better redeem these before it's too late!

Funny how that same story was shown on the local news this morning here in Detroit. They on the other hand said Pier 1 was NOT going out of business, but " in danger " of closing within a year if things continue the way they are. The news creates such havic. How do they expect us to be friendly to customers constantly asking when we are closing?
