This goes back to supervision. These sorts of incidents happen a lot, with maybe a couple of serious cases a year. Babies don't belong in washing machines nor microwave ovens.

Guess this machine was marked "out of order" for good reason. Front loading washers are a safety hazard even at home. Kids explore. Glad mom was able to break that glass. That's pretty strong glass!

It's okay, the quick thinking mom put the child in the dryer for a quick cycle to clear the water out of the child's lungs.

explain , how does a front load washer lock itself and start running , a front load will not run unless the door is latched to set the built in safety .....
Safe guards front load washers and dryers Prevents child from crawling in washer or dryer and if accidentally left open prevents door from locking ....

Her daughter is now forever traumatized by the accident. When the kid becomes a housewife when she grows up,laundry will definitely not be one of her chores.

There is a cam on the handle and an interlocking safety switch that the cam hits after mating with the locking surface. The inside of the door has nothing to pull, and there is no way to turn the handle from the inside. So, did another customer close the door as a prank or maliciousness, or did the mother try to "teach a lesson" and then have second thoughts?

tallyho wrote: <quoted text> or another balloon boy affair Yes, a possible hoax, but the gash tends to make me lean more to abuse or reckless endangerment. Of course, there is Munchhausen's by proxy (harm a baby and rescue for attention). Something tells me that might be it. We'll have to keep an eye on this story. If I remember right, regular Munchhausen's is basically a form of hypochondria (making oneself sick for attention), and "by proxy" means it is done through another. There was a Forensic Files episode where pediatric illness and deaths were almost unheard of. Then a nurse came along and petitioned for a pediatric wing to be built onto the hospital or something, and she was put in charge. Suddenly, the pediatric emergencies and deaths in that small town soared. They suspected something wasn't right since the deaths were well above the national average. So the first thing they did was cross-match the incidents with who was working at the time. Then they did employee background checks. One nurse stood out, and history showed that the deaths increased at another hospital before she worked there and decreased when she left, but the hospital acted like the Catholic Church and simply had the nurse transferred. Then once the current hospital had a suspect, it was just a matter of setting up hidden cameras. That revealed things such as uncharted meds, strangulation, foreign substances added to I-V lines, overdoses, etc. They walked in on her tampering with the IV. It was odd that she was always on the scene when a "rescue" needed to be done. That hospital helped put her behind bars if I remember right. The first one should have done that, but they simply wanted it all to go away.

tallyho wrote: <quoted text> by law medical world has to report abuse , no matter what age In that case, the one bound to report was doing the abuse. At least that hospital fulfilled their duty by investigating and contacting authorities as soon as they had evidence and not just gossip. At the other hospital, the deal was that they suspected something and didn't want to know enough to be bound to report it, so they laid off or transferred their suspect before any new details could surface. Either that or they cut her hours and she looked for new work. Then when she applied for a new job, the old hospital gave glowing recommendations, they wanted her gone without the political and legal ramifications. They only shared that there was a suspicion once asked.
