Stocks advance on better-than-estimated corporate earnings
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 26.34 points to 13,103.68. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.42 points to 2,986.12 and the S&P 500 Stock Index added 4.22 points to 1,412.97. U.S. stocks rose, sending the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index up from the lowest level in seven weeks, amid better-than-estimated corporate earnings.
Procter & Gamble Co., the world’s largest consumer-products maker, and Aetna Inc., the third-biggest U.S. health insurer, added at least 1.2 percent as results beat forecasts.
