So if these meters are supposedly 2% in favor of PGE, your argument is that's wrong because we've been 2% in our favor ever since receiving PGE service with the analog meters (when your house was built)? So it's okay to steal all that time?

The digital meters are MUCH more accurate. They also lend themselves to being VERY audit-able. So if you have a concern, get the meter audited. You can do simple audits yourself with a $20 device called a Kill-a-watt which measures exact wattage of whatever is plugged into it. Turn everything off in your house except what is plugged into the kill-a-watt. Compare the numbers on the meter with the kill-a-watt. Sure, the kill-a-watt also has a tolerance, but you're looking for pretty big discrepancies. You can also quickly check by adding up the wattage of any lightbulbs being used. Unplug everything and turn on a few lights. Does the meter add up to the number of bulb-wattage used?

I used a Kill-a-watt to find the old garage freezer cost $15 a month to run. Too much for the little use we gave it. I know how much a load of laundry costs me. A dishwasher load, and that the TV/stereo costs about $30 a year to run. I found huge savings between my 22yr old fridge, and the new one we just purchased. I found that a 1watt LED nightlight indeed only consumes 1 watt.

You can also go online to PGE.com and compare any and all of your bills against each other. It's amazing. I can compare my Dec10 bill with my Dec09 bill. It will tell me the differences in electricity and gas, any seasonal changes that may have affected the use etc. It's great to see after putting a new fridge in or HVAC the savings and/or increases compared to last year. It's all available to you, the consumer, for free. Very powerful information at your fingertips, and the smartmeter will only add to that, giving you daily/hourly usage.

Also, PGE is not taking anything over. Seriously. PGE is a business that has to answer not only to shareholders, but to the California Public Utilities Commission, which governs/regulates rate increases etc.

The sky is not falling.

We all know what the PG&E expert is going to say. Why can not PG&E have a public meeting with the press there.

People in this county have questions that have not been anwered and need to be answered in public. Every question anyone has needs to be asked and answered in public so PG&E can be held accountable for the answers.

If the Daily News was doing its job it would be calling for a public meeting.

Just remember your bills are going to go up because PG&E is now going to be using TIME OF USE billing.

The article above leads us to believe that the CCST Health Effects of Smart Meters report was conducted by an organization that is neutral. It is NOT. CCST has as its affiliate the US DOE (Dept of Energy), the architect of the smart meter program in America. Check out http://www.ccst.us/ , this is so. A major conflict of interest that should have been considered (or was it?) when CCST was asked to do this report. Scientists around the world who are experts on rf radiation have slammed the CCST report, citing a myriad of problems with it. Visit sagereports.com/smart-meter-rf/ to read these.

Many of them are very alarmed at the smart meter program - here are the comments of one esteemed scientist:
"Many smart meters are close to beds, kitchens, playrooms, and similar locations. These wireless systems are never off, and the exposure is not voluntary. The smart meters are being forced on citizens everywhere. Based on this, the inauguration of smart meters with grudging and involuntary exposure of millions to billions of human beings to pulsed microwave radiation should immediately be prohibited until ’the red flag’ can be hauled down once and for all." (Dr. Olle Johansson, Stockholm, Sweden, leader of scientists issuing Seletun Scientific Statement)

The smart meter program is a menace to health ... I am one who is ill from these effects. Sleeplessness, ringing of the ears, headaches, skin cancer, and worse. Don't be fooled by the utility propaganda, this device is not at all like the others they compare it to. Read the Sage report, above to see the real picture.

Write Governor Brown to demand he stop this program NOW and allow all those to opt out who need to. This is a fiasco that will keep on sickening Californians till it is stopped. The more they install the more they have to remove later, and the sicker Californians will be. Who will want to come here to visit, to be irradiated? Tourism will dry up. Catastrophic stupidity.

Let's Face the Truth; Meters are made by people, and people are human, humans make mistakes. PG&E needs to face up with the reality. Many Smart Meters have either been installed in a correct manor, and some have not. Keep Records, and get the name of the installing man or woman including their ID number.

The new Smart Meters will increase what you pay to PG&E, as they will now record not only how much energy you use, but the time of day. If you use power during "peak hours" (i.e., during daylight hours) you will be paying at a higher rate. They know this. This has more to do with raising their profits than worrying about all of us and the "Smart Grid".

The Daily News story says the SmartMeters will put out radio waves. I am willing to believe the quote from Dr. Olle Johansson above that the Meters put out pulsed microwave radiation. Where did the Daily News get its info from - PG&E or have they tested a meter?

Okay

1. Good job on the sage report findings. Good report, however it shows that this is just the same as every other infiltration of RF energy in our lives from AM/FM/TV broadcasts, radio transmissions, cellphone, wireless internet, leakage from appliances, etc. However all of those are deemed voluntary exposure and these smart meters are deemed involuntary exposure. I also like how they place the nursery crib within 11" of a smart meter for measurement, since a nursery crib can't possibly be voluntarily placed on the other side of the room. ALL of our RF exposure needs to be brought to fruition, not just smart meters. If you're going to cry foul due to RF exposure, where were you when all of this other "stuff" came into our life blasting out RF energy? I think if you own a cellphone, you give up the right to complain about smart meter RF transmissions.

A LOT of that RF in their measurements also take into account the individual appliance transmitters, which is not part of PGE's rollout of smart meters. There's no way they can demand their use too.

2. Time of use billing is an option that a business can use if they choose to. I can see this being an issue for those who do not work and stay home all day, retired etc. But it does follow basic supply/demand principals of pricing. No fault to PGE there. It's called Business.

3. Radio waves scare people and there's a lot of misunderstanding. "Pulsed Microwave Radiation" sounds deathly, but it means nothing. The term microwave covers 300MHz to 3GHz of spectrum. So any business using radios, all of your FRS family radios in the 462MHz range, the ambulance as they race you to the hospital while transmitting 100watts on 463Mhz only 5ft from your head, are all "pulsed (intermittent) microwave (300-3000MHz) radiation (emitting energy)". The word radiation is used to scare people, when it's simply a verb used to describe how Radio Frequency Energy radiates from an antenna. It's not radio-activity which the common person equates "radiation" to. Your voice radiates from your mouth to someone's ear.

GET USED TO IT.
PG&E has already killed people in Hinkley, California and San Bruno California and other places less well known.
Why are you people complaining about Wireless smart meters? Do you think you and your children deserve better than those adults and children that have already been killed by PG&E?
PG&E Corporate has a record of lying, covering up, killing and sickening people throughout the state and that's not going to change.
I don't understand you people trying to protect yourselves and your children. Why don't you people just accept it, like the rest of us.
It is obvious that PG&E lies for money. But PG&E is the official word and if I go by that and something terrible happens to my wife or children, no one can blame me.
Stop the dam scientists from reporting cell damage and breaks in DNA chains in human cells and breaches in the blood/brain barrier of lab rats from the Wireless smart meter type of radiation and stop talking about it.
Just accept it, like the rest of us.

To Tang Lor
I liked your informational story about the smart meters. However you need to correct a misstatement,“Resident Kathy Nelson…. She understands the need to convert from analog meters to SmartMeters, as it will help with the rolling out of the nation’s smart grid system.”
I do not want the invasion of the smart meters!!! The need to convert from analog meters to smart meters is the first step in the stimulus funding and the necessity to get the National smart grid off the ground and working. Where you possibly misunderstood, was when I said we need to upgrade our transmission lines and grid, as the existing system cannot keep up with the demands and the new technologies. The utility companies claim that the new smart grids will provide a clean footprint. However, their statement of a clean footprint is just an excuse to push in this new smart grid. With their plan of the inevitable mandatory solar panels, our grids will not be able to handle the load of transferring power to and from the East coast to the West coast and all states in between.

If anyone is interested in finding out the EMF radiation environment you can invest in an EMF Detector, Gaussmeter, Tesla Meter, or a Magnetic Sensor. You can read up on these EMF readers by going to their website @ www.lessemf.com/gauss.html

PG&E CORPORATE: LIES, LIES AND MORE LIES.

Old timers, multi-generation California farmers who heard Paul Moreno of PG$E speak, said that lies come out of his mouth like bats out of a cave.

A. There was NO INDEPENDENT auditor. Structure Group was the one that did the report on meter accuracy and Structure Group is IN-BED with PG$E.

PG$E is one of Structure Group's biggest clients. "Independent" auditors are supposed to be organizations that have nothing to do with the company they are auditing.

Structure Group did not reconcile a single higher bill of hundreds of thousands in California. They tested a small number of meters in a laboratory NOT THE WAY THE METERS ARE DEPLOYED IN COMMUNITIES. Structure found that a percentage of meters failed accuracy in different heat conditions and threw those meters out without including them in the results.

Then PG&E pretends that hundreds of thousands of people can't tell why their bills went up, and they have the nerve to blame it ALL on the weather.

B. Once Moreno has had a conversation with a customer, they do NOT have a better understanding; they simply know that Moreno is lying.

SENATOR FLOREZ, AFTER HOLDING HEARINGS REGARDING INCREASED BILLS FROM PG&E WIRELESS METERS, SAID THAT PG$E IS LYING TO US.

C. The California Council on Science and Technology report said that further study needed to be done on the NON-THERMAL effects of the radiation from the Wireless Smart Meters.

Paul Moreno has been told many times that highly qualified and HONEST scientists have found cell damage and DNA damage and breaches in the brain/blood barrier from LOW LEVELS of Smart Meter type radiation - but Moreno doesn't say a word about that damage in this article.

D. Moreno knows that insurance companies will NOT insure health risks from Wireless Smart Meter type radiation because the insurance companies have also seen the damage resulting from the radiation. But he never mentions that.

E. Fetus and infants and children and teens and even adults and seniors need a quiet electronic time at night to grow and develop and recover. Only PG$E Wireless smart meters are going 24 hours per day.

F. PG$E Wireless meters are the only device in operation 24/7 without relief and the only MANDATORY device.

PG$E corporate somehow think they can impose this on people here as though we are living under some dictator in Egypt.

G. Moreno - walk into a prison, tell them you are lying to millions of people and jeopardizing millions of children's lives. Tell them that you wiggle your way through information and put pieces together that make it sound ok, when it is NOT ok.

Tell the people:
1. WIRELESS meters are NOT required for a smart grid.
2. WIRELESS smart meters do NOT lower energy usage or utility bills.
3. WIRELESS smart meters can more easily be hacked by high tech home robbers.
4. WIRELESS smart meters have CAUSED FIRES and DESTROYED ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT and INTERFERED with motion detector lights.
5. WIRELESS smart meters DO CAUSE HARM in the amounts that the meters emit as reported by the scientists that actually do the testing in the laboratories.

Do not be fooled by the representation of a "Small amount" of radiation that Moreno preaches. The strength of radiation emitted by each pulse of over 20,000 pulses emitted daily exceeds the strength of a child's brain-to-cell signal by tens of thousands of times.

Because the ocean has millions of times more water in it than the torture chamber barrel, does NOT mean that water-boarding is not unpleasant or that you can't be drowned with the amount of water in the barrel.

Moreno - stop the pattern of LIES.

Something to think about: San Bruno, California ! Eight People die in the Gas Explosion/Fire, last fall. Saftey, and more checking of old gas lines. Timely Inspections, and Quality Control. All old PG&E gas and electrial Gas and Electrical lines ! Please Repair, fix, Replace, and Inspect all of your existing gas and electrial lines first. Saftey & Lifes would be A SAFER and A REAL SMART CHOICE, before spending millions of dollars on a ? SMART METER ! What is more Important to PG&E ? A Life or a Smart Meter ?

Smart meters will not hurt human beings only their pockets. If one continues to waste energy and overuse during peak periods you will have to pay. Simple math.
Now as for San Bruno, many mistakes were made there STARTING when the city allowed houses to be built along a major gas main! The city was more worried about their revenue than the safety of it's citizens. Were these people informed of the main running by their homes? Would you buy a house along a gas main be it natural or liquid?????" I certainly wouldn't and think that in the future that there should be large empty zones along these lines where no building would be permitted.

So, when do we get to break up the PG&E monopoly? I thought it was illegal for corporations to have monopolies (Ma Bell, Bill Gates.....) Our rates will have to go up to fund these meters. My guess is that our rates will go up disproportionatley to our usage as PG&E is not going to absorb the cost of purchasing and installing these meters.

FYI from someone in a place where the meters have been installed (Bay Area). I wrote this below for a local city council meeting, but thought you should see that it is not a hypothetical issue, the matter of health effects from wireless smartmeters.(If you are going by that bogus CCST report, you should know that there are many experts debunking that, see http://smartmeters.transbay.net/doku.php... )

---
... This brings me to another point that needs to be considered -- I hired a professional EMF consultant and he measured the signals coming from a relatively small cluster of wireless smartmeters on an apartment building next door to me. His measurements showed an alarming result: he found emissions were TEN TIMES anything he had measured anywhere else. What if this is from a malfunction? NOBODY is checking for MALFUNCTIONS ! Things like this could be exposing people to severe consequences.

About the health issue, no questions should remain at this point about how serious this is. I am a contact person in online resources for people who are looking for help about smartmeters, and so I have received calls for help from many. Also I have met people at demonstrations and heard their stories.

There is a segment of the population who are electrosensitive. You usually don't hear much about them, but I predict that you will be hearing more and more -- because I keep meeting brand-new electrosensitives. Now that smartmeters are sweeping the area, it becomes clear that there is a percentage of the population who develop symptoms rapidly upon exposure to smartmeters' radiation. People who had never thought twice about electromagnetic radiation may suddenly begin having big problems. When they get away from this radiation (which is becoming harder and harder to do now), the symptoms go away. Most of these newly sensitized individuals find that their lives have now changed in many respects; they have joined the ranks of other electrosensitives who can no longer use equipment that was previously part of their daily lives, and they cannot be around wireless installations without suffering pain and impairment.

I hear people say "I never knew anything about smartmeters until this happened to me." Seriously: people's lives are being ruined, people have had to sell their homes and do not know what to do. It is really impossible to overemphasize the seriousness of this situation. People feel as if they are being tortured, and I have been told that some are contemplating suicide.

Other, less susceptible, people may have more insidious health issues that might start small and become large. A study should be done. I have heard about inflammation in the joints, a lot of people get ringing in the ears, and I have heard of two people who have had tumors grow -- one I know was on the jaw near the smartmeter location (close to their pillow). These anecdotes are easy to ignore as "insignificant" -- so a study should be done.

Again, we do not know how much of the problems people experience might be due to malfunctioning equipment. Nobody is checking these things.
---

see http://emfsafetynetwork.org/... for more personal stories. Note that most people prefer some degree of anonymity for fear of being stigmatized. But if you look at the testimonials at http://smartmeters.transbay.net/doku.php... I have had personal contact with all but three of those people. This is real, folks. FCC standards are inadequate, and they don't apply to this situation anyway.

Private and public utility companies are natural monopolies due to the impracticability of duplicate transmission and distribution facilities to deliver electricity and natural gas. They are heavily regulated and monitored in California by the Energy Commissioners and the Public Utilities Commissioners and their staffs to approve rates and prudency of operation.
