Are they nutz?? We need a traffic siginal light. Think of a logging semi holding up traffic trying to make the curves. and people trying to get into the right lanes of Hwy. 1 to turn or go straight. We had one in Long Beach, CA. it was a real trip and dangerous........This is a waste of money.

True. This is a terrible idea.

I've been saying that for months. We could have had the stop light installed and operational by now.

This is the dumbest Idea yet! I can't believe that they are going to waste that kind of money for something so ridiculous. Why can't they just keep it simple and put in a light???

Ask the advocates of this 'one world/EU debacle' how many trips to Europe did it take to be bamboozled by a place where road 'engineering' is an oxymoron?

What kind of vehicles do these boneheads drive: Citroen, Renault, Panhard, PoooJoes?

Someone got 'paid off' under the table or simply, their meds lost their shelf life...

A light would mean traffic north/south bound on highway 1 would have to stop anytime some Simpson lane loser decides they want to rejoin society. This way they have to merge into the roundabout and highway one traffic is not forced to stop.

Once it is up and running and you realize that slowing down a little is better than not stopping then you will stop whining.

Whining? Empirical evidence is called such?'Traffic Circles' have some limited benefits but attaching them to such a rural application is questionable. Already discussed is the time delay and inconvenience already due to construction. Not to mention the added expense... How has our beloved America taken a third-rate position so fast borrowing upon concepts contrary to our unique heritage? Answer: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Caltrans has made the decision to build the roundabout. Caltrans made the decision before 2009. Caltrans pays little attention to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, or anyone else. They, alone, need total praise or blame for this.

I am not looking forward to the roundabout but will get used to it, eventually.
been there done that

after living in very rural eastern washington and surviving several years with dozens of roundabouts, I can tell you they are safer and more reliable than a light. do you realize how backed up traffic gets on highway one when the traffic lights are down???

Not to extend any ideological party polemic, the fish rots from the head down (re 1600 Penns. Ave.)...

And, the seismic shift towards global/EU thinking smacks of this 'turning circle.' America IS 'changing' and ANY modification is going to precipitate questions.

Also, Caltrans has NEVER been considered in any capacity a paragon of efficiency. In some other locations, sure, this 'circle' might be applicable. Now if the hub and the shoulders are adequately maintained; AND the circumference adequately accommodates multi-axle vehicles, well then, it's a wait and see...

Giuntoli ln and highway 101 north of Arcata has two @ the exits... They work.... Require little maintenance and not electronics/lamps/power supply... Passive solution... And off tracking trucks "cheat" toward the center... Day trip up there to see it or google earth it....

I am so glad that someone pointed out that the President is somehow responsible for this controversy. What a guy!

Just what 'President' are you alluding to? NOTE: There is no such thing as a 'good' politician (from either party); only more practiced ones. The current occupier however does bow lower than the rest...his last genuflection before the Chinese was prescient re our future.
