PG&E Knows What's Not in Pipeline Documents, But What Is?

There are 1 comment on the NBC Bay Area story from Jun 24, 2011, titled PG&E Knows What's Not in Pipeline Documents, But What Is?. In it, NBC Bay Area reports that:

PG&E knows some of what it forgot -- the utility was told 20 years ago that its record-keeping was so shoddy that information about welds on its natural gas pipelines, like the one that blew up in San Bruno in September, killing eight people, was likely lost forever.

Perfect timing for this article. At around midnight tonight (June 23 going on 24), a loud pop & flash momentarily turned off the power in my house. When my husband called PG&E, they informed him that 2,000 people were out of power right now.

A week and a half ago a transformer blew up directly across the street from my house (throwing a fireball into the sky to boot), leaving the surrounding Oakland area without power for the rest of that day.

I just went to PG&E's website to try to learn more about what's going on with tonight's outtage, but the only news posted are their press releases about some random corporate responsibility work they've done. HEY PG&E - HOW ABOUT REPLACING THE DANGEROUS & SHODDY EQUIPMENT IN THE AREAS YOU SERVICE (for a pretty penny, I might add) BEFORE BOASTING ABOUT WHAT OTHER "GOOD WORK" YOU DO??? It's a shame PG&E didn't learn from the San Bruno incident. Hopefully they will be forced to update their infrastructure around The Bay Area before another tragedy occurs.
