Real smart! Now the criminals (who ignore any laws and bans) know what homes are safe crime zones. Of course, once has to assume the thugs can read. Doubtful, but it might happen.

This is obviously agenda driven. Have they done the same thing with driving records? Arrest records? Civil court records?

A NY newspaper has now published, under their State's open records law, the names and ADDRESSES of all those who have gun licenses in that State. Many of these license holders are current or former law enforcement officers who, during their tour of duty, have arrested many criminals. Now, their home addresses are known to these criminals. The first time one of these criminals uses this information to stalk, track or invade any gun license holder's residence, the newspaper should be held accountable in every conceivable meaning of the word. The first time it can be proven that a criminal uses this information to stalk, track or invade the residence of someone they know does not own a gun, then the newspaper should again be held accountable in every conceivable meaning of the word "Accountable". Every meaning.

you've got to be kidding me. Now criminals know exactly which homes they can rob and which ones to stay away from.

You have no idea how difficult it is to get a pistol permit in New York. It takes close to a year in some cases and you are thouroughly investigated to make sure your background is spotless. Publishing the names and addresses of pistol permit holders is an invasion of privacy beyond harrassment. Pistol Permit holders are some of the most law abiding people in New York because of the stringent requirements to own a handgun in New York. You are sadly mistaken if you believe they are so called gun nuts. Maybe ONE out of ONE THOUSAND loses their permit for something and in many cases it is not firearm related.

Think about what you said. Troll mentality...

Then again criminals are stupid. They probably would try to break into a home where the occupant could kill them, instead of the house where the occupants were defenseless.

Agreed, I live in Mass and have a Class A license to carry, which means I have to carry concealed, I in no way shape or form want anyone to know that I have my license to carry it's no one's business.

As long as you are not breaking the law it's not something people need to know. None of their damn business at all.

Who are elitist lefty pigs, too bad that more regual persons weren't denied their right to carry. I'm sorry, I've got no empathy for elitist pigs.

Every person should be entitled to a certain amount of privacy, even gun owners who have never broken the law. The fact that the newspapers were even able to get their names is because these people obeyed the law and registered their guns rather than the alternative, and here we are the newspapers have put a target on these people's back. Sorry there is or should be such a thing as responsible reporting. This sound vindictive on the part of the news paper.

Have your neighbors been warned about you? They should be aware there’s a paranoid little freak near them.

I hear this backfired in two ways.

1) the non gun owners are pissed because they have been outed as easy targets.
2) the author's name, address, and phone number was published nationally as an example of how an invasion of privacy feels.

I also heard that the newspaper revealed the name and address of a woman who was being abused by her husband. She is a gun owner and was in hiding out from him.

Good to see that someone is fighting back Putnam County clerk is refusing to release the names of legal gun owners because he fears it will put the public in danger. And he's right it could.

Until recent years when you asked for a 'public' document you got everything, social security numbers, birth dates etc. After 9-11 especially many states started withholding that information even on a formal request from non law enforcement. If they can withhold social security numbers on public documents for security/privacy reason why shouldn't these clerks offices be allowed to legally withhold information like this.

Now many are crying first admendment first admendment which I agree to a point. The same crowd is also trying negate the pro gun second admendment supporters as hypocritical. But even the second admendment doesn't allow you to unconditionally own guns. There restrictions like criminal record, no fully automatics, can't open carry in most states etc. But this is where this is going-the first admendment.

Also the first admendment doesn't allow you to cry fire in a public setting. The first admendment doesn't give you the right to distribute someone else's personal or propietary information ie this part is sort of like illegal file sharing which came off the public internet. But get ready. The same media types that are anti-gun/ditch the second admendment will hide behind the first admendment.

In a FREE state( more free then northern commie states), we can have open carry. Personally, I have a CCP, which took 3 judges and police chief, and the sheriff to sign off on. Not everyone can get a CCP, just like up north. The left trying to undermine the 2nd amendment, and the people who own a weapon legally, is against the law(constitution) and need to be brought to justice. Proof positive that liberals lie, and liars are liberal. I would say for you good folks in the north move down here, but you need to stay up there and clean up your own mess.
