"Its high-end products, built on Sun's proprietary systems and its own microprocessors, suffered against less-expensive rivals that used industry-standard technologies such as chips from Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and software from Microsoft."

Microsoft? Anyone familiar with the industry knows the main OS that Sun was competing with was Linux. Microsoft was a factor, but they are not as strong in the server market (where Sun mostly plays) as they are in the personal OS market, and certainly not the dominant force in Internet servers.
