Mr Leckey clearly has not bought an hp product recently, nor has he searched on line to see what others think of hp. Otherwise, he might not have gotten his facts bass-ackwards. Hurd (which should be spelled with a t, not an h) did not take hp from an also-ran to a higher level. He took a high quality company and turned it into feces. A hundred years ago when I was in college, hp calculators were considered the best. Somewhat more recently, when I bought an hp multifunction printer, hp was considered excellent if not the best. My experience with both products confirmed that. But last year when my hp printer finally died, after long and faultless service, I looked online to see what's good now and most of what I read about hp was bad. Poor quality. Poor service. Poor reliability. So I bought an Epson, which is ok though not well designed.
Last week I bought an hp 22 inch monitor for my Powerbook from Staple. Opened the carton. Hooked it up. Didn't work right. Called hp customer support (in India, naturally), and was told that my product was NOT under warranty, even though I bought it brand new not three hours earlier, and therefore hp customer service would not help me. Took it back to Staples and bought an Acer, which works fine. Then I checked online to see if my incident was unique. Not hardly. Seems as though lots of people have had bad experiences with hp products and hp service, or lack thereof. Meanwhile Mr Hurd collected $40 million for himself last year. That's hardly my idea of a well-run customer, but then I'm just a lowly customer, not a business expert like Mr Lackey.
