Sprint warns of multi-billion-dollar write off
Sprint Nextel Corp. warned investors Thursday that it would take a multi-billion-dollar write off for a portion of its deteriorating wireless business.
The company did not specify how large the non-cash accounting charge would be, but said initial assessments are that it could 'represent a substantial portion, and potentially all' of the approximately $31 billion of goodwill now included on its books, Sprint stated in documents filed early today with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Goodwill is an accounting concept that measures such factors as the difference between what a company paid for an acquisition and what it currently is worth. Read more
