If you truly feel that way i expect to see you took your own life, otherwise you're b/s us.
The part of no oxgen in the water has nothing to do with us, that is a lack of movement, the more water doesn't move the less air trapped into it..
But you are right lets put people in all different spots in smaller amounts and ruin everything, on the ball thinking right there.
I love the dopey black bear comment, bears are lazy and will take the easy way out for food..
When you start actually watching the animals and understanding what they do and why you'll learn more then making dopey accusations of stop developing....yeah that's the big fix right there...
I think your cylinders are firing in the wrong order. Where do you get your misinformation?

To those that are saying the owl can just MOVE...
Obviously you are not aware of niches (look it up). An animal picks a habitat based on its characteristics. When you destroy that animal's habitat, it can't just pick up and move over to some other territory. IF that other territory happens to have those same characteristics and is suitable, it would already have one of those species living there. They will fight and only one will survive to inhabit that territory. They have set requirements regarding how much space they can occupy. They can't just SHARE (kind of like people that way). We can't seem to get the idea of SHARING space with animals (or trees, or fish, or whatever). People feel it is their RIGHT to DOMINATE every friggin thing, and they will keep doing it until the planet looks like like one giant concrete jungle and we no longer have the space to grow trees to provide us with oxygen, or space to grow the food we eat, or even grow the food that we feed to the animals we eat (oh that's right, they just feed them the ground up animals that we won't eat)...
It takes a great amount of effort and time to slow down a speeding train, and that's what the human species is, and we must learn to slow it down (and fast) or we'll just be plunging headlong into our own demise (and most of you idiots that keep talking about 'progress' won't even see it coming)...

Well said. People forget that humans are an animal, we breath the same air and drink the same water. Once we have destroyed all of the natural habits we will perish. We need natural resources to survive. All of mankind is not intended to live in an articificial and concrete environment. Long Island is headed down that road fast unless we preserve what little nature we have left.

Wow, I dont think anyone said it was. But if you consider the whole country, what you say about pockets of development just is not true. thats why there are black bear encounters in northern NJ and mountain lion attacks in California. the urban-suburban sprawl has covered the habitats of these animals. we have over 50% of all water bodies in the US affected by pollution, acid rain from the midwest killing pine trees in the northeast and every available inch of seacoast on the eastern seaboard built upon. it used to be you could drive from Denver to Boulder and see open range, now you see open shopping malls.
LI -- the western part of the sound hasn't enough oxygen in the water to support sea life, we ship our garbage out of town to bury it, the soot and dirt from nyc is visible any day from the boardwalk at jones beach.
you call people concerned about the environment Al Quaeda or enviro extremists, so its apparent you are one of the idiots referred to in the previous posts. you dont see the problem because you dont want to.
We see the problem the problem is "THEY" ARE GOING TO BUILD .Do you really think poiticians and developers aren't going to develop this property and just give it over and turn it into a nature preserve? WAKE UP IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN ! YOUR SMOKING TOO MUCH WACKY WEED BUD.This is long island we are talking about.I have lived here for over 30 years surrounded by farms and race tracks when my town had 1 traffic light 1 small grocery store where the owner knew everyone by name( beacause he and his family where the ones behind the register) I grew up on long island when it was considered COUNTRY. GET THIS STRAIGHT I HATE LONG ISLAND NOW it's nothing but STRIP MALLS AND Mc MANSIONS and know it all yentas. your a DAY LATE and a DOLLAR SHORT.At least the www.epcalcentre.com plan preserved open space and was enviornmently appealing. It would create jobs and build the surrounding ,hell all of long island economy's,and would be a great place to bring your families and be proud of long island again. How many people you know are proud when they go on vacation and you say your from long island? give us a break already.I have been there done that, so all you environuts don't sit there with the mightier than thou attitudes. I love nature too. I actually remember and lived it..and then watched it get paved over before my eyes.TOO MANY PEOPLE,STRIP MALLS ,Mc MANSIONS, TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND HALF ASSED PARKS, DEVELOPMENTS THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.NOW you want to save long island sorry again your much, much to late.

there still is a lot left to save here. most of long island has been paved over and its too late for much of western long island. but there are still large tracts of wilderness left and its crazy to just give up and say oh well might as well all make it like queens already. youre way too bitter man, open your eyes and dont let what little we have left slip away. for the record i am all for a racetrack or atv/motorcross park, i just would like to see it built on previously developed or industrial use land.

thats just about what i would say. obviously this guy has given up, but there are still open spaces left to preserve. and re-using sites that were developed and now sit idle is what many are asking for. its better than throwing up your hands and quitting.

KEEP DREAMING. You really think they are not going to keep building? With a 30 year + track record of mowing down trees and building Mc Mansions and strip malls on long island ? all of a sudden they just hand over 1,900 acres,I beg to differ.
