I recently found that my 13 year old daughter had a my space account. I have drilled it into her head not to put any personal information on the internet. Well guess what, she did. It wouldn't have mattered if she didn't all of the people on her "friends list" had all their personal info there too. It wouldn't have been to hard to figure out. Just so Anonymous in LA knows kids can access MYSpace at school and at the library.

I registered once, because I was being manipulated by my friend, who also made an account. I neer saw nude or inappropriate pictures or anything, but when my mom randomly browsed, she discovered that there was a huge amount of pornographic, offensive, and just plainly inappropriate profiles. From that day I was not allowed to register, and my parents deleted all my friends and my account. And this is a true story.^^

I think it's crazy, I mean, I've had one for a while and no one has bugged me. I only talk to my friends on there. My parents are weird about it. They check my friends list, etc. They want to know who every person is. My parents don't like it, but they don't forbid me from getting on it. At my school you can't get on myspace, they put a special Admin block on it. I don't know about the library..but I guess you can. My parents trust me because I basically talk to them about everything.

I am the mother of a 14 year old who is on myspace. I set up my own myspace and I monitor her friends and their friends, etc. There have been many things that disturbe me from posting of home phone numbers to language that would make a sailor blush to references to drugs. The bottom line is it's MY computer, I pay for the internet access and you either play by my rules or you don't play. I think a large part of the problem is there are a lot of parents who aren't paying attention to what their kids are doing.

Has it occured to any of you parents that the responsibility of raising your children might belong to "you!" When I was raising my 2 daughters, if I did not want them to do somethng, I simply told them not to do it! Since, I did not feel it was society's duty to raise m y children for me, I then checked to ensure that they did as they were told! They did not always follow instructions, exactly. But, then I think that that is what we cal, "Growing up!"

My cousin who's like 9 has one. I don't think she should have one. It used to be you had to be 16 to join. Those girls were stupid enough to meet someone online. I'm pretty sure I've never heard of a lawsuit against AIM when girls meet people on that and get assaulted.

My kids all have my space accounts and don't mind if I access and monitor. That's the rule. They have been taught the dangers, but people do slip up and give out information they think is harmless so monitoring is definately needed.
For me the best thing to do was not deny access but teach them how to use it appopriately and safely.

Myspace can be extremely dangerous and can be harmful. But, putting up personal things such as phone numbers and adresses, it can put you in serious jeopardy. I am 13 years old and my mom has told me NOT to put up info on the internet. She found out I had a myspace and checked everything to make sure that I was as safe as can be. Some people use myspace and disobey the rules which makes myspace really dangerous. Having a myspace at 9 is REALLY BAD. Whoever is the parent of that child needs to delete it IMMEDIATELY!
