I watched the piece on FCN last night and right at the end it said that most of the grafitti shown was not even in this area, its was just example what they find in other cities. Slow news week, I guess. Anyone who has ever lived in a gang heavy city would be very quick to tell you that that the Jacksonville area does not have a gang problem. I lived in Chicago years back and you literally had to not wear certain things in certain areas of town. Jacksonville is more about which neighborhood a person is from than what color that person is wearing. All of it is pretty silly to me, be honest because there is no real honor in either.

A lot of true gang activity is at least somewhat planned. It isn't just hassling someone because they were bored. They go out with the plan to get money, drugs, weapons, revenage, etc. A gang "member" doesn't make a gang. A gang is a group of people not just one. So when the individuals commit a crime it is commited by the gang. Wwhat do you think makes a crime gang activity and not just a bunch of thugs committing a crime?
I think you are confusing gangs with organized crime and maybe splitting hairs just a little but to each his/her own.

OK, so your just like everyone else in Florida and you carry too. Big deal. Thats not a gaurantee that you will be the one to survive.

If you get jumped would you rather yell and hope someone here's you and has the balls to help, or would you rather have some kind of means to defend yourself. Unlike most who carry in FL, I've had alot more training and won't fire warning shots, or just try to scare them off.

No, I would not rather yell. Thats why I also carry and will use it if needed. I just dont feel the need to tell everyone how tough I am.

I was responding to your post. I didn't come out bragging about what I would do like alot of the "tough guys" on this forum do. I was simply stating that I won't just roll over and allow myself to be a victim without a fight.

Your right. My bad. Now on to bigger issues. Thanks for the barter back and forth and I'll catch you on another opinion board.

I live in the neighborhood across from Sandalwood High, and quite frankly I don't care what these messages mean I just want the gone. It is not just graffiti that is a problem around here, there is also other crimes that are going on, for me personally I've had a car stollen and my house egged several times. There needs to be something done about the kids( and they are kids) that have nothing better do to than to mess up what I work hard for.

Our society, especially Jacksonville, encourages terrorism by being sympathetic to those who participate in gangs. These people are terrorist, but yet we send them to institutions to try to help them. I think the hard working American would agree that we don't have the time or money to help terrorist because they don't care for the law. Were suppose to understand their culture? That only gives them the right to behave like barbarians; bringing society down with them. Our culture is suppose to be civilized and it will. It's just we need to get rid of the "sympathizers" in order for an effective approach on crime.

Let me be very clear, there are no real gangs in Jacksonville. The Folk nation is claimed here so often because it was disbanded years ago allowing the suburbinites to represent without reprecussion. Under no chance are these Jax wanna-be gansters members of any gangs. They just aren't tough enough. In Jax if you listen to rap music and think you are a gangster, you are not, you are a poser
well then buddy hit the northside or eastside of j'ville saying that and see you dont get shot, either that or the shit kicked out of you.

I suspect this person was referring to the gang activity in LA, NYC and Chicago, for example. And, no, we do not have gang activity like that. It could possibly develop into that, though, if something isn't done to bring violent crime down. And the trend seems to be an increase rather than a decrease in violent crime on a steady basis.

For those of you interested, here is an article that keeps getting taken off all the forum boards on Topix for some odd unknown reason. It's about a murder, possible bisexual love triangle, and possible hate crime in Jacksonville, FL.
