I'm confused. I found the title of this thread listed under "smoking news". This is news? Really?

Republicans seem to hate kids, people who are ill, and tax, unless it's on the lower middle income. For some reason they seem to love things that harm others and try to block any corrective action.

They've been lying to us for years!

At New York’s 1975 World Conference on Smoking and Health, Antismoking activists were told that to eliminate smoking it would first be essential to "create an atmosphere in which it was perceived that active smokers would injure those around them, especially their family and any infants or young children…"
- Huber. Consumers Research Magazine. 04/92

The world Health Organization found: CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate no association between childhood exposure to ETS and lung cancer risk.

Conclusions: The results do not support a causal relation between environmental tobacco smoke and tobacco related mortality, although they do not rule out a small effect. The association between exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and coronary heart disease and lung cancer may be considerably weaker than generally believed.

Cigarette smok ing and indoor activities do not substantially increase human ex posure to BaP relative to exposures to background levels of BaP present in the environment.

From all the available evidence, it appears that any effect of passive smoke on risk of any of the major diseases that have been associated with active smoking is at most small, and may not exist at all.

A US EPA study (Lewtas et al., 1991) has concluded that the lifetime cancer risk from woodstove emissions may be 12 times greater than exposure to an equal amount of cigarette smoke.

There are dozens more - They lie because the truth does NOT support their goal of eliminating smoking

I suspect we all are aware that wood smoke has the potential to cause a lot of harm. That might be why as a rule we don't suck wood smoke filled paper tubes and inhale the wood smoke directly into our lungs. I for one think all fireplaces ,inserts, wood stoves and such should be equiped with a catalic burner. I use them on my wood stoves and find they work like a charm.

Oh, I see. One person had trouble with one model of catalytic converter-equipped stove, and wrote a letter to a company that SELLS stoves without such equipment. So, you think the response of that company (totally unbiased information, to be sure) refutes the personal experience of the person whose post you respond to.

This is pretty similar to your responses to people who post regarding their individual, personal experience regarding SHS exposure. We must all just be out to get you because you can find sound bites here and there that suggest that there is question regarding the causal relationships between SHS exposure and various diseases.
