May 13, 2009 -- The American Society for Clinical Pathology has joined the American Civil Liberties Union in a lawsuit challenging the legality of patents on human genes -- specifically, patents covering the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are associated with breast and ovarian cancer.

The USPTO needs to get some educated patent examiners before they grant such patents. The whole argument that the discoverer of the gene should be rewarded BY ELIMINATING ANYONE ELSE FROM USING THE GENE INFORMATION is mind-numbingly stupid. It is like saying that because I was the first one to look at the moon - no one else is allowed to look at it without my specific consent.
