Murphy Oil selling Buyout Property at $10,000 a lot
(Chalmette, LA) Court Ordered in 2007, the post-crude-oil-spill voluntary buyout was intended to create a buffer between Murphy Oil's Meraux refinery and the community.
Murphy Oil has entered into agreements to sell three properties to a politically connected business, which caters to turnarounds and other industrial customers.
Residents question how food service protects their safety and property values, and wonder what might be on the next menu.
The sale is predicated on a pending zoning change application, expected in the Council Public Hearing May 2010.

now we know why Murphy Oil Meraux was so intense on heavy industrial zoning for the buffer zone -- they'll sell it to anyone seperate from the refinery

two more properties in the buffer zone are said to be sold to the same business, a seafood restaurant. Murphy Oil originally purchased these properties through its crude oil spill settlement which included a court-order for a voluntary buyup program "to create a buffer." despite the recent BP Oil spill's effect on seafood, this one business might be looking to expand
