I planted conventional beans after planting the Roundup varieties for many years and am very satisfied with the way the Jake beans grew off. The Jake beans (Group 5.4) are yielding better than the Roundup beans (Group 5). What I like most is planting with $12 per acre bean rather than the $40 or more with the gene beans. The neighbor's bean fields which are weedy due to the Palmer Amaranth and Horseweed are of concern for the next year weed seed population. Hope people get the message for next year and realize that Roundup beans still need other herbicides. Has anybody reading this article above seen the weedy crop around Walls, MS on Highway 61? What is up with those bean growers...
