Now, as the Racketeering charge has held, it would be nice if the individuals who were found to have lied under oath to Congressional Committees went to jail for a good long time.

Given the fatalities resulting from public acceptance of their lies, everyone involved in the perpetrating/disseminating of those lies should be charged with mass murder. Possibly there is a domestic terrorism charge somewhere in there, but consecutive terms for murder would satisfy me--unless they could be tried in a death-penalty state.

Ah, yes, I meant to correct that to say "everyone KNOWINGLY involved" in the lying. Dupes shouldn't be penalized further, and certainly shouldn't be offerable as scapegoats.

yep

anti smoking cartel and government cannot shake down the tobacco companies and thats a great thing

But it also prevents the administration from trying to extract billions of dollars from the industry either in past profits or to fund a national campaign to curb smoking.

At the same time, however, the courts have said the government is not entitled to collect $280 billion in past profits or $14 billion for a national campaign to curb smoking. The high court previously denied the government's appeal on that issue.

The public health groups in the case are: American Cancer Society; American Heart Association; American Lung Association; Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights; National African American Tobacco Prevention Network and Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund.

Actually, the decision rejected the tobacco companies' motions as well. The determination that these companies ARE guilty of decades of deception and fraud stands.

Odd that ANYONE should be publicly rejoicing over those crimes.

As one regulationist group put it,

"It is now critical that the trial court move forward with strongly enforcing the remedies that it did order.

"These include requiring the tobacco companies to make corrective statements about the health risks of smoking and secondhand smoke and their deceptive practices through newspaper and television advertising, on their web sites and on cigarette packaging.

"The trial court also:

"ordered the tobacco companies to report marketing data annually to the government

"extended and expanded current requirements that the cigarette manufacturers make public their internal documents produced in litigation, and

"prohibited the companies from committing acts of racketeering or making false, misleading or deceptive statements about cigarettes and their health risks in the future."

Yeah, Liberals are the ones behind giant bank failures and the housing bubble. Those damn hippie hedge fund managers, bank ceos that came up with derivative bundling of sub-prime loans..........
Republicans, who also engineered the socialist bailouts of banks and GM, had nothing to do with it.

It's tobacco farmers that are behind the economic woes.........

Actually, the main reason the tobacco farmers are out of business is that the tobacco companies are "outsourcing".

Once again, and for another group, the tobacco companies are the bad guys and "liberals" get the blame. Typical finger-pointing addict squeezings.

Yup, Those two guys single-handedly wrote all the foolish mortgages and bundled them into toxic derivatives.........No Fund managers, bankers, etc involved with them whatsoever.

It was also not the W administration that came up with the socialist bank/gm bailouts..........

Don't let fact get in the way of your delusions, though. Them liberals are responsible for every single thing that's wrong with the world and republicans are completely blameless..........You're a talking point parrot, not a free thinking man.

Your weak and fragile little mind is incapable of processing facts. Instead you prefer to regurgitate the talking points and pathetic insults your puppetmasters spoon feed you.
Mouth Breathers are the easiest to spoon feed.
You are a scared, ignorant little man struggling to find ways to tell yourself that you don't bear responsibility for your own failings. Painting yourself as the fantasy victim of others is easier than facing the truth in the mirror.
Facts are facts. The bailout and the economy were W & co with their "free market/strip away as much regulation as possible" bullshit. It wasn't Obama, who had yet to take office and it wasn't Clinton somehow overpowering the administration from seven years in the past. Act like a man and accept it.
