McMoRan expands find in the Gulf

The well has been drilled to a depth of 29,756 feet where more hydrocarbon-bearing sand was discovered.

Our super rich and abundant Gulf of Mexico has been the receptor of debris during our mapping of geologic time. From the most shallow oil and gas wells in the GOM to the deepest there a signs and tracks that identify where the productive zones are. And one fact is central to drilling wells is that the deeper one drills the higher the pressure held in the rocks.

One thing that is certain ---- all better be prepared for pressure at that depth to be plus 15,000 PSI. And the other thing of importance is that some of the formations found at those deeps have a porosity and permeability that is prone to have high yields in production.

We must never forget the BP blowout!
